You guys still don't understand that the age thing is specific to Biden - Trump doesn't present as old and saying that he's only 3 years younger than Biden or whatever isn't helping you.

He does present as old. The man is 78! That's old regardless of Biden looking and being older. Most people are retired by then.

Polls say that well over 60% of voters say that Trump is too old. It’s even higher for Biden, but it’s definitely an issue for trump too. Biden just can’t make it into an issue because he’s older.

DP. hate to agree with this, but it's true. It was extremely apparent at the debate last week. Trump clearly has some issues, but the delta to his previous incoherent self is smaller.

"had some issues"

Like every time he opened his mouth, he told a lie? Ya, those are some issues. He is detached from reality, and yet no one is telling the GOP to change its candidate and the corporate media sure aren't banging the drum about it. Why the double standard?

Yes - it's absolutely astounding that we aren't seeing the same outcry for Trump to drop out of the race given that absolutely outrageous stream of nonstop lies and distortions. It was undeniably a complete gish gallop of provable bullshit. I've had ENOUGH of this "yabut we expect better of Biden" crap. EXPECT BETTER OF REPUBLICANS!!!!

Elie Mystal is good at being cute with his words - but he's wrong about this. VPs are not president material. They're the opposite. They're chosen as VP because they're not threatening.

She can stay on as the new VP. Someone better can be the new presidential candidate.

H.W.’s ghost would beg to differ with you. He was the POTUS after Reagan. May be, you weren’t alive then. Learn some history.

I suspect the decision has already been made. All of the speculation in the press is a way to slow roll the situation over a week or two to get ducks in a row for the next candidate and not have the withdrawal be so abrupt.

Read elsewhere that the timeframe is decision made this week with an announcement of the new D candidate to coincide around the GOP convention

Sure. It's comforting to think that reality is prearranged and that someone is in charge. Despite all the evidence.

Because Trump was still in it, and Biden thought he gave us the best shot of defeating Trump again.

the dems can't f their way out of a paper bag.
whatever choice they make will suck just like letting bernie get so far was stupid and having harris be the vp and then having harris be ignored as vp was stupid. these people are not capable of anything.

You don't think Trump presents as old? Really? That is some orange shaded lenses you are looking through.

I suspect all the speculation is a media play to sell more papers and get more clicks. The Trump years were gangbusters and readership is well decline since. The think pieces that were ready to go at 9 pm the night of the debate is a dead giveaway.

Agree wholeheartedly. People are definitely assessing the wrong candidate here. This whole thread is a yawn. Move on people.

He doesn't present as old in the same way. In the photos where he's actually walking, and isn't wearing five pounds of shellack, he looks old old. But when he's costumed and wearing his makeup, and standing relatively still, he looks more vibrant.

I hate him.

I honestly don't know what the hell is wrong with media these days. Back in the day they did actual investigative journalism. Now there's hardly any of that anymore.

It seems like nowadays it's more a combination of:

being too spineless and cowardy to go after someone like Trump,

or patronizing patting of people on the head saying "yes, yes, of course we know Trump is nuts and did bad things, and the American people all know this" when the polls show the American people obviously DO NOT know this,

or being outright corporate shills either in the bag for Trump or who don't want to offend their outlet's Republican owners,

or having idiotic managers and editorial boards saying "we need a horse race, horse races sell, so don't overplay how bad Trump is - but we (wrongly) think it's safe to totally overhype every little thing that goes wrong on the Biden side" still not understanding how badly they overplayed themselves on the "Butter Emails" stupidity

Whatever it is, the media SUCKS. There's no two ways about it. They need to get their shit together.

It’s joever. He has the opportunity to bow out and cement his legacy. The next month will involve managing expectations until the moment is right to announce the transition

Stop yelling at people. Many of us agree with your basic premise but you keep yelling at us. No one likes it.

And yes, more should be demanded of the GOP but they own the media and have rigged multiple systems to insulate themselves from their losses. So we can only take care of our own party (and even within that it’s not like we have a lot of control).
