Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Excellence? No, that's inequitable. Non-criminal behavior? Usually. |
Snort. As a Ganglandia parent, I find the characterization of our schools by parents who don't live here to be laughable. And the W parents are supposed to be the smart ones? Pffft. |
Wheaton and Watkins Mill are W schools but are not "W" schools |
Do you speak that way in real life? |
Of course they are. Starts with a "W"
|
Do you consistently avoid the point of a comment, so you don't have to respond? Quoting from earlier in this thread: "The expectations of excellence aren't limited to the families. Those schools are run by administrators who value education and expect excellence from each child no matter their familial background, economic status, special needs, etc. Can't speak to bcc but there is a glaring difference in how students are supported at W schools and non." The above is judgmental, inaccurate, and offensive. It belies the assertion that families in W school communities are intellectually superior to those in "Ganglandia." It's embarrassing. |
| No one cares. Live where you can or want. |
| Interesting not to see folks relate the W schools with the other W…. White. Whitman, Walter Johnson are some of the least diverse schools in the system. BCC has at least a little more diversity in part driven by a high number of diplomats in the capture area as well as apartment dwellers. It also has the IB program |
Multiple people have already said this. It's been mentioned and discussed on every page of this three page topic. |
Exactly. Read the comments especially when there are only a few pages in a thread as opposed to top threads of the day which can be 40+ pages. |
^ truth |
All schools have a high achieving cohort and offer similar opportunities. The only thing that's unique about the W's are a lack of diversity and too many racial incidents. |

Yes, these schools also all have <5% FARMS in a county that averages 35%+ FARMS, and they seem a lot less diverse than other schools. |
Do they all have a FARMs rate less than 5? No. Sorry the data doesn’t support your narrative. The data is available online so you don’t need to make vague characterizations like WJ is “not diverse”. Are there schools with more black and Hispanic kids? Yes of course. Is it all white and not diverse? No. The school at a glance for WJ 2022-23 shows that the FARMs rate is 16%. Last time I checked 16 is less than 35 and more than 5. Racial demographics for WJ 2022-23: 49.9% are white; 17.8% are Hispanic; 14.7% are Asian; 0.1% are American Indian/Native American; 11.2% are Black/African American; 6.2% are two or more races; and 0.1% are Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander Last time I checked 49.9 is not all. https://ww2.montgomerysch.../04424.pdf |
