Nothing to do with race, I have friends of all races, but UMC, yes. |
I think everyone’s friend group is in some ways “their own kind” — your family is often the same race as you, your neighbours often have similar social class, your coworkers are obviously in the same profession, friends through religious groups are the same religion, etc. But also especially in an area like this where the general population is very diverse there’s likely to be diversity along the non-shared axes: your church friends are all your religious kind but a wide variety of professions/ages/etc; your neighbours are probably similar to you money-wise but might be different races/religions/etc. |
Yes, as it has worked out, we seem to mainly socialize with STEM oriented folk who lean liberal. Not all, but most of our friend group fall into those categories. |
Adding: As I read this thread, and think about our friend groups beyond the STEM, we are somewhat diverse on a few things. Faiths - UU, several Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Jewish and non-religious. They run the gamut of faith based lives to culturally the faith of their parents, to adamantly non-religious. For whatever reason, we know many mixed faith and mixed ethnicity couples- mostly white American married to: AA, North African, Central American, Cuban, American Chinese, Iranian, Jordanian - mainly made from our kids schools and other activities and our neighborhood. The friends that we have kept from my DH’s employment at an NGO are from all over the world. However, almost everyone is college educated (most with graduate degrees) and roughly similar HHIs. Most are also not first generation college educated. |
I socialize zero people. Not worth the effort |
Until MAGA happened yes all walks of life and diversity.
Not any more. You are either an American or not. If you even consider any Republican viable get out of my life. I have zero tolerance for that utter stupidity. Yes, judging church goers who claim to be oh so morally superior while they scream kill Fauci and stand with the likes of MTG> I am Jewish by the way. I lived in an ultra orthodox Jewish Cummunity til I was ten. Then in a only Catholic area so much so that on the way to elementary school and junior high on ash wednesday I went into the church with my friends so they could get their ashes. My mother after age 10 gave us Christmas presidents and Hanukah because she was afraid we would be ostrazied. The Priests & Nuns knew my family well. I will never ever speak to those so called friends who have joined the cult again Jewish or Catholic. I always over looked they were still townies never went to college, their racist comments, and antisemitism I experienced from their parents as a child. I thought my generation would be a better generation. But dam if I will over look their hate now. My bad. I am very lucky I got to leave both places. Have an excellent life, love my diverse intelligent friends. |
I'm black, and growing up, I only had black friends. Now, as an adult in my 40s, my dearest friends are a mix of white, Filipino, and gay. I find those relationships the most rewarding, deep, and non-competitive. |
Fauchi is a Catholic Church goer and teaches at a Catholic college and Trump was the one who rolled out the Covid Vaccines. Biden is also a church goer. The republicans who fourth in WWII saved the Jews not the liberals home smoking pot |
Learn to express your thoughts coherently. I don’t understand what you are trying to say. |
I do! AA whose social life is 95% AA. We do some stuff with parents from our kids school who are not AA (barely any of them are) and keep in touch with a few people from our various walks of life who are not AA. Most of the people in my social circle grew up UMC so we’ve always been around people who aren’t AA but this is how things ended up. |
Asian American or African American? |
We have a surprisingly mixed bag compared to most of these responses. We're UC mixed race with kids in public. Movies and shows make certain barriers seem like bigger issues than they are IRL or people in my area are just more easy going. |
My friend groups includes mostly agnostics and Christians and a few Jewish people. I am an atheist. My friend group is mostly middle class and is a mix of white people and immigrants from Africa and Asia. Most are liberal, a few are conservative, and a few are progressive. I am a white conservative. |
I'm African American and would like to think of myself as UMC, but I'm probably considered rich. Most of my friends are black and in the same income level. However, we have lots of white friends and my best friend is Latino (and very rich). We have a few Asian friends. We have lots of gay friends. We don't have many religious friends though. |
Feel sorry for you. Fauci screwed the gay community in the 80s and the rest of us with COVID. The world is turning both anti-Semitic and anti-American. Those MAGA folks are the ones who will save humanity. |
