I mean, of course all of us have a few diverse friends. But in general is most of your socializing with people who are similar to you?
Yes, as it has worked out, we seem to mainly socialize with STEM oriented folk who lean liberal. Not all, but most of our friend group fall into those categories.
Adding: As I read this thread, and think about our friend groups beyond the STEM, we are somewhat diverse on a few things. Faiths - UU, several Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Jewish and non-religious. They run the gamut of faith based lives to culturally the faith of their parents, to adamantly non-religious. For whatever reason, we know many mixed faith and mixed ethnicity couples- mostly white American married to: AA, North African, Central American, Cuban, American Chinese, Iranian, Jordanian - mainly made from our kids schools and other activities and our neighborhood. The friends that we have kept from my DH’s employment at an NGO are from all over the world. However, almost everyone is college educated (most with graduate degrees) and roughly similar HHIs. Most are also not first generation college educated.
