The Auburn School in Silver Spring

Current parent here. The profiles of kids vary, but all need small classes with supportive teachers and forgiveness when they make mistakes. Some have behavioral challenges and others don't. Some are below grade level in areas, and others are above. I would say that all the kids need an environment with flexibility in terms of being able to meet their needs, and Auburn generally does this well.

It's not perfect, and it's a big pricetag for it not being perfect, but for most of the parents there, it is working and seems to be the best option. I'd say that one universal is that public school failed all of our kids, and this is where we ended up. For a few, it was a mainstream private first, but most were in public and were bullied or otherwise not well served. It's a nice community of people.

When we toured, they told us most kids go there a couple of years and transfer elsewhere. I think that's their model - although that's not entirely what I have seen with other parents. The communication has been great from some teachers and specialists (like outstanding above and beyond anything one could hope for) and sort of meh from others.

This is incredibly helpful. Thank you.

On the other hand, Andy Hubner (HoS) and Ana McArdle (Director of Admissions) are still there and they really need to go. Really poor leaders. Jennifer Polkes, the former head of admissions was effectively running the school before the pandemic and when she left I think the school really suffered. Some of the new hires look promising so I hope they are turning things around.
why do you think Ana McArdle needs to go? She seem so nice.

I heard enrollment in silver spring was low. Do you think it will survive for another few years?

It may be a good option for us in 2 years though the location is far…..

Are there any current parents at the Silver Spring campus who could provide an update? The school was recommended today for our DC on the spectrum, very bright, but who needs some socio/emotional supports

Wasn't it bought out by venture capitalists?
