Seems like a bit of a drive from Rockville. Are there any MoCo families there?

There have been in the past and the parents did arrange carpools amongst themselves

We looked briefly at Auburn but went with Diener instead. Very happy there. Auburn was quite disorganized with our application.

The current admissions director essentially ghosted my family which I found incredibly rude

How is the new behavior specialist?

Great IMO. My sons friends say that she is to clinical and cold, but I think she does a great job and clinical is what you want.

We have had great experiences there for a similar child. It's not perfect but has been great for us, and I e heard the same from other parents. We have looked into alternatives and don't see anything else that would be as good for our needs.

Thank you. That is very helpful.

I am a former parent who left due to the lack of communication and support by the leadership members. My emails about my child would go unanswered for weeks.

With that said, your the school. Talk to the staff, and make your own judgements. Auburn is not alone in its issues and sometimes you have to pick and choose.

We had a tour recently, very nice people but I wasn't so impressed. Any current Auburn parents? what does your child profile look like?

What were you not impressed with? Did you like the teachers and support staff?

Current parent here. The profiles of kids vary, but all need small classes with supportive teachers and forgiveness when they make mistakes. Some have behavioral challenges and others don't. Some are below grade level in areas, and others are above. I would say that all the kids need an environment with flexibility in terms of being able to meet their needs, and Auburn generally does this well.

It's not perfect, and it's a big pricetag for it not being perfect, but for most of the parents there, it is working and seems to be the best option. I'd say that one universal is that public school failed all of our kids, and this is where we ended up. For a few, it was a mainstream private first, but most were in public and were bullied or otherwise not well served. It's a nice community of people.

When we toured, they told us most kids go there a couple of years and transfer elsewhere. I think that's their model - although that's not entirely what I have seen with other parents. The communication has been great from some teachers and specialists (like outstanding above and beyond anything one could hope for) and sort of meh from others.

Current parent as well

I know about the criticism and can relate to it at times, but I feel that the cause of the issues are from the organization that owns them and the higher ups. I have loved our children’s teachers and the social learning specialists. The former behavior specialist was very checked out and not seeming like she enjoyed the job, so I am glad for the new one. Overall a great community of people.
