If your DC liked UMiami, where else did they apply?

I'm curious about Wisconsin. I get Tulane and the other privates b/c they likely have similar offerings for student support, school size and student-teacher ratio. I get the state schools in SC, GA and FL b/c they would have similar weather. Why Wisconsin? I know it's a good school, but what would be it appealing to a kid who likes Miami?

Application to Miami wasn’t all about sunshine and warmth, but rather quality of school at dc’s level.

+1 Tulane. Similar vibe, they offer merit and have excellent public health program.

They are interested in something in the health sciences field, but haven’t landed in a major (anything from psych to PT to med school). DC doesn’t want to go to the west coast. We have enough safeties, but not enough targets or reaches. (4.0, upper 1400s, good ec) TBH, it seems like everything is either a reach or a safety. How does UF, FSU or USF compare?

Really you are sending a kid to Floirda?? Oh goodie another parent that has no idea what is happening in the US. Amazing parenting.

As you wish....

UF for the top students in the state. OOS students who apply have no worries moving forward most will get in. Flagship
Florida State - second academically in the state. Traditionally one has to be stupid to not get in there.
Same with with USF C students

You missed UCF which is similar to Florida State.

Good luck in a state run by Dictator creep Ron DeSantis.

By the way I am alumni at UF. Ben Sasse now controls the curriculum good luck getting jobs out of the state.

What was DC's level? MY DC isn't aiming for ivy, but is a straight A student.

From your terrible writing and grammar, it's clear you went to UF well before it became an elite school, Dobbs dork.

Anonymous wrote:Not your question but worth noting, UMiami definitely seems to focus on managing yield at our HS school. Definitely pay attention to the scattergrams. The students at our school with stats in the highest quadrant (so above Miami's average) were all deferred in EA. I think they would have needed to ED to get in. The deferred students then get nagged by Miami to switch to ED. At a minimum, they would have to write a very strong (I want to go to Miami and will accept) LOCI to get in. Students accepted EA are in the middle stats range for Miami toward the top, but not over it.

Either way, students have to show a ton of demonstrated interest for that school so if your stats are high and you are coming from an area where it would seem you can afford to ED, you need to ED.

Very different at our private.
Pretty much everyone over 3.8uw got in…

Other reach /target schools to target depending on major:

NYU
Wake
BC
WashU
Tulane
GW
Syracuse
Northeastern
BU
Case
Tufts

UMiami has way surpassed Syracuse. Syracuse and GWU aren't on the same levels as those schools. Wake, UMiami applicant pool are far, far stronger. Night and day.

You are really out of touch if you think WF and UMiami are even close to the same level. UMiami is an easy safety for anyone trying to get into WF.

Don't blame her for turning down Elon. Not sure Miami is worth more $$ than S Carolina honors unless she wants to party on the beach in Miami.

Where did your kid get in? Stats? Where did your kid enroll?

In case the PP doesn't see 10:12's request, if your kid was admitted to UMiami with merit, can you please share their stats?

To be clear, the above poster never mentions repro rights. Just curriculum. I know you think you are so clever with your "Dobbs dork" insult, but at least aim it at the right people.

They might not have mentioned it specifically, but look at the terrible writing style. It's the same dork who shows up with a nasty reply to every post suggesting a red state school.
