Does the HOS at Potomac Really Make This Much??

Anonymous
The board sets the compensation, which is not unreasonable and likely tied to performance. Just look at Potomac's finances and endowment (and compare to similar in area) and you will see that the school is well managed, well funded, has high faculty and staff retention and very low acceptance rates. If you think he is undeserving, go email a board member to outline your reasons.

So many people on this board make that much in BS jobs in marketing and real estate. He runs one of the top private schools in the area. He deserves it.

Agree! I do not understand, however, that kind of compensation for schools that are not at the top of the list (looking at you, Bullis).

It’s laughable how people come on this board with such holier than thou opinions about what each head might make- with judgments as to who deserves what, who is overpaid, who isn’t- blah blah blah - not knowing anything about the scope of the job and why the board chose to pay that person what they did. Can you imagine if your job and salary were the subject of conversations here? Yeah, it’s in poor taste.

lol. It's an anonymous board for bored people. Take a pill and relax, Karen.

HOS makes too much. He should be ashamed of himself. The disparity with staff is egregious.

Truly never have a day or night off, dealing with parents, kids' crises, educating our kids, running a multi-million dollar business that relies solely on tuition and donations, fundraising. It just doesn't end for them. Yes, it's a lot, but I think it's well deserved.

NO. Many non-tenured PhD-holding professors at the university level live out of their cars without health insurance. That sort of inequity is third-world type stuff and should not exist in the USA.

No body is forcing these fools to live out of their cars. These adjuncts choose to get paid in "prestige" or in "hope" that the university will recognize their genius and hire them on the tenure track. Plenty of people deserve sympathy, but not these idiots who need a Ph.D. to earn less than a waitress.

I wouldn't be as disgusted if teachers and staff, including janitorial staff, were actually paid decently. No HOS should be making a 1%-er salary when their lowest paid full-time worker can barely make ends meet in this expensive city. This should especially be true for "values"-oriented schools like GDS and Sidwell. And I don't buy the "board of trustees" sets the salary BS - members of the board read DCUM. They need to put their money where their mouths are.

Well, you know who has the power at any school if they want change? Parents, en masse. So parents, if you think teachers should be paid more in line with administrators, make your voices heard. Bring your concern to the BOT.

It public information for a reason. CEOs salary are constantly talked about. As are public school Superintendents. And university salaries are constantly debated.

One guy managing one school and making a million dollars should definitely expect scrutiny.

Yes. Tell them you are prepared to pay 20 percent more for tuition in order to do so.

This is insane. No HOS is worth this.

Yes, though I would posit that the anonymous nature of this discussion board allows the conversation to become pervaded with misinformation, lies and abusive vitriol. It's part of the double edge sword of the internet and social media.

There is no misinformation. The OP posted a link with faculty salary.
