Actually it may vary by state. Maryland allows it and Virginia does not.

I don’t think it’s supposed to, but it depends on the ref.

Slide tackling is not banned anywhere. There are no rules pertaining to slide tackles.

I looked for a rule about this a couple years ago after a U10 game where one of our players got hurt ( just a sore ankle) and only could find that USYS recommends that slide tackles not be permitted at that age group but could not find anything about an outright ban. They Suggested that they not be used until u15.

Slide tackling is banned in edp futures age groups.

But slide tackling is allowed in most leagues at that age.
I am biased because my U10 is a very strong slide tackler and parents from the opposing team who don't realize that it's allowed beg for the foul.
Why try to suppress skill?

Because most (not all) U10s don't know how to properly slide tackle and could hurt someone

It doesn’t vary by state, it varies by league. Illegal in MSI Rec and SAM, I believe.

There is a shortage of good, qualified or experienced referees

#1 reason, abuse from parents and coaches

The refereeing problem in quality and quantity is 100% self inflicted by the people on sidelines and in forums complaining the most
