WHY DIDN'T THE PRINCIPAL SEND OUT A LETTER TO THE FAMILIES?!?!

This is something families should know.
Thank you, OP, for informing us.

Extremly sorry to hear to families of this bus and sincerely hope students and the bus driver are okay. ALL families with kids riding a bus should be livid and concerned hearing this.

Let's guess why communication wasn't send out...
A. Optics
B. Central office has yet to approve of any communication that the Principal can send out to families.
C. Optics
D. All of the above

The electinos are in a week. BOE members are on the ballot. Time to make your voice heard.

^^^^ This person has been spamming the same link regarding this incident on every every post in the archives that mentions buses or Westland Middle School.

I agree that this incident sounds scary, but please consider that spamming 10 plus posts about buses with the same link is not innocently sharing information. It's a campaign tactic aimed at frightening parents as we go into elections. There are plenty of things to be annoyed about, and issues to vote on, but let's not give in to our worst natures and let this person manipulate us

Yes, poster writing about election should stay in that other thread, please! Do appreciate posters posting on several threads about the incident. Not everyone reads each thread.

Not the election poster, but I think it’s important to remind people they have a say, and they can vote. The poster is not telling you who to vote for.

Election reminders don’t bother me. However, the posters making light of the antifreeze incident do irritate me. This stuff is toxic! Were their parents made aware, so they could check their kids washed very thoroughly???? The lunchboxes need to be thrown out.

Did the students go into the school building?? And be around other students too? Didn't they get picked up from the site after it happened? This is where a bus tracking app could have helped parents - why hadn't the bus arrived at the school yet?

According to the letter a replacement bus came and took them to school after they were assessed and cleared by the EMTs.

Are these students 18yrs old age already, las time I checked middle schoolers are not typically adult age. Parents/caregivers/emergency contacts should have been informed to come to the site to assess themselves if their kid should proceed to school. At that point, parents can take their kid to the doctor's or ER if they necessary. So, they don't know how to reach parents in this emergency because who would collect each students's contact information to call from site of incident? Ugh, MCPS.

+1. Principal trying to leave?? - This incident and isn't this the same school where some dispute over Jewish or Muslim teacher's email signature or what they allegedly said in class?

I can't believe this happened! I mean I believe you OP but why wouldn't MCPS send out a communication about it and why would they reuse that bus without telling parents why they think it's safe? I am really sorry that happened and hope your child is okay.

My kid is at Westland, but not on this bus, and that day, the kid behind her in STAR class was wet and complaining that he'd arrived late to school. The kids didn't react at all, because they didn't know what had been sprayed on them.

It's BEYOND CONCERNING that the kids were just sent to school without warning them and their parents that they had been exposed to a toxic substance. Most of the kids bring their own lunch. Were they warned not to eat it? Were they given an alternative in the cafeteria?

All these things should have been communicated.
