Is there a "post-truth" majority in the US?

Agree. Covid really pushed this forward. It was pretty clear to any thinking person that it was highly likely that a worldwide pandemic that emerged from a city where there was a lab studying that exact family of viruses originated from a lab leak.

The idea that people who stated the obvious were called racist and were shut down by the mainstream media made it clear to me that journalism as we had known it in the past was over. No one wanted the truth, they wanted to carry out their bosses’ bidding.

Love the assertion that people were called racist for merely suggesting there might have been a lab leak. That's precious.

That's not why and you know it. You people were shunning, verbally and physically attacking Asians, even ones who weren't Chinese, you were yammering about "bat soup" and other things every chance you got. That was the racist part.

^ Look at this one gaslighting about anti-Asian racism.

To be fair, any mention of the possibility of a lab leak was swiftly deleted from DCUM.

Yup, look at Joe Rogan, Russell Brand and Jimmy Dore whose programs are rife with bad information. Infotainment for gullible idiots.

This "infotainment" has sadly become baked into belligerent refrains of "I dID mY rESeArCH" for millions of Americans.

They need to be deprogrammed. This crap is destroying America.

We used to leave science to the scientists. Now you the likes of Rogan, Brand and Dore "reading" what's in science journals to their gullible audiences.

Somewhere along the way “Science” let itself become just another big money racket that really, really wasn’t interested in outside opinions. Climate and pharmaceuticals being the worst examples but I’m sure there are many others.

I’m happy there are people out there like Joe Rogan participating in an ongoing free exchange of ideas. Have listened to him a handful of times and it’s usually pretty thought provoking.

Would be fascinated to hear your take on the hole in the ozone layer. Or the polio vaccine.

NP who agrees with the PP.

The polio vaccine was great. I love not being stricken with polio.

The ozone? Is it 1988? Are you a Russian troll?

Now why don’t you share with us your take on evolutionary biology.

I think we all agree racism is bad, but so is hiding the truth about the origins of the virus. As is calling people racist for speaking truthfully about it. This is why people no longer trust the mainstream media. They care more about the right PR than the truth.

As is any discussion of what it entails to be part of a species that has sexually dimorphic reproduction.

Not trusting the mainstream media started long before Covid for most of us. Have you not heard of Fox News or MSNBC? They aren't newbies. Cables news is unfortunately mainstream these days.

That goes to op’s point though. Op and others posit that this “post-truth” era impacts only the right, when it’s clearly an issue on both sides of the aisle. We can’t trust our media sources to provide unbiased reporting. They don’t care about facts or truth, they care about the messaging they’re meant to provide. That’s true for both Fox News and the New York Times.

Yes. Objective truth, operating on the basis of antithesis (if a statement is true, the opposite of that statement cannot be true) is dead.

Wake me up when MSNBC has to pay an $800 million fine for lying to its viewers.

Clearly you don’t care about objective truth. You care about taking sides.
