Brain scan?

What exactly do you mean by “gatekeeper”? Are you also going to demand brain surgery based on the MRI despite medical opinion?

MRI *is not* standard of care for pediatric headache unless the neurology exam shows indications of a red flag.

Yes, but that kid has *something* going on in their brain.

Does that mean they need a $2000 MRI? No it does not.

And here we go. A quack for every occasion to separate SN parents from their money, and expose their child’s developing brain to unnecessary radiation to boot!

Dr. Amen is fabulous.

Amen is a quack and it is extremely concerning to see him being promoted here to parents of vulnerable children. Hopefully his clinic actually doesn’t do medically uneccesary CT scans of children, but who knows. PLEASE if your kid has headaches, call Childrens or Inova Kellar. We were able to be seen very quickly. No need to go to a fringe science “clinic.”

My kid participated in the NIH study for anxiety. She had an mri that showed a cyst. We sent the scans to her doctor who was not concerned at all. Fast forward 7 years she was just diagnosed with a brain issue. She had new scans done but we also had the NIH scans sent to her neurologist who said the cyst size
did not change and was not the cause. All this to say is that not all cysts are troublesome and I would work with a neurologist if your child has any unusual symptoms. The NIH scan was helpful since it acted as a baseline. Even though they couldn’t diagnose or treat, they were very helpful down the road and the anxiety study itself was also very helpful. Information is power.

What kid does? The ops kid with headaches? How can you possibly know that?

That OP’s child is frighteningly violent. My somewhat less violent kid had something going on in his brain. We resolved the issue in the brain tissue and we resolved the problem. The kid needs a complete physical. If I were that OP, I would demand brain imaging.

How did you “resolve the issue in the brain tissue”? Do you mean surgery? I’m assuming that a neurological exam indicated the possibility of a lesion.

This is good advice too

He’s a well-respected psychiatrist who has written many books.

Why does Dcum hate brain scans? Is it the pharma reps who sometimes seem to dominate?

An mri is standard for headaches and migraines.
