3. Chicago
4. Duke, Harvard, Penn, Virginia
8. Columbia
9. NYU, Northwestern, Michigan
12. Berkeley
13. UCLA
14. Cornell, Georgetown
16. Minnesota, Texas, WashU
19. Vanderbilt
20. Georgia, UNC, Notre Dame, USC
24. Boston U
25. Wake Forest

UVA up 4 spots, NYU down 4.
Berkeley down 2, Wash U up 4, Vanderbilt down 3, Notre Dame up 7

It is interesting to me that Chicago has been firmly above Harvard for a few years, and now other schools have also jumped up to tie it. In the popular imagination, Harvard Law is the ultimate but it is a huge institution and its reputation within in the field differs a little

Yale is NOT number 1 and Harvard is NOT number 4.

They are not even in the top 10 or even top 50.

They both opted out of the rankings:

Not sure why people still pay attention to these dumb, subjective, rankings.

T14 historically has meant any school that has spent time in the T10, which there are 14 of.

I don't get it. Doesn't that make them legitimately higher ranked? All of the following now refuse to cooperate:

Yale
Harvard
Penn
Stanford
Columbia
NYU
UVA
Berkeley
Michigan
Duke
Northwestern
Georgetown
UCLA
UC Davis
University of Washington

I don't know what you're talking about but the sub-headline of the story you linked to literally reads:
"Yale and Harvard, ranked No. 1 and No. 4, respectively..."

This is exactly whey US News changes his rankings ever so slightly every year - not enough to really mean anything but enough to get people to pay attention

Sorry you do not understand. Maybe you should try reading more carefully?

“Yale Law School and Harvard Law School both said Wednesday they will no longer participate in U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of law schools, marking the biggest shakeup to the closely watched list in years.

Yale, which has captured the No. 1 spot every year since U.S. News began ranking law schools in 1990, was first to announce the decision. Hours later, Harvard Law Dean John Manning informed students that it would do the same. ”

I did and that is why I have noted many of the differences. The OP's list is NOT accurate.

Both Yale and Harvard no longer participate in the ranking.

Whether or not any school chooses to participate (even Yale and Harvard) the rankings still exist:

It's kind of insane to insist they don't

It is not insane to point out the fact both Yale and Harvard no longer participate. They announced it publicly.

Involuntarily, USNWR rates them anyway.

“Involuntary rating” immediately made me think of all the times college frat boys have been caught assigning a “rating” to female college students.

I graduated from GW Law in the late 2000s and plenty of biglaw firms recruited there, not just DC based or DC offices. Has that changed?

I know if you go to undergrad at Georgetown your chances for acceptance at Georgetown law is much higher.
Does anyone know if that applies to u Chicago too ?

Is it higher chances of admission all other things being equal or higher chances of applying or accepting offer all other things being equal?

Was just going to say this. It is definitely this (though I will point out that all cut offs are "made up"). And I say this as a Georgetown Law grad (back when it was GULC). It's T14 because a lot of NYC and DC firms recruit heavily at Gtown, which has been ranked at 14 for a long time. Gtown has national name recognition in a way that schools ranked just below it do not, so T14 became shorthand for these more national schools with top reputations.

Chicago Law has an expedited binding ED program for UChicago undergrads:
https://www.law.uchicago.edu/chicago-law-scholars-program

It comes with a $150,000 discount too, so it seems they prioritize keeping their own students. But Chicago Law is even more stats driven in admissions than most other law schools, so I doubt they go much below their medians to admit Chicago undergraduates
