Plus, it is a little more exciting going to London, Seville or Florence than to go to community college for the fall.

+1
I appreciate that W&M supports both the more exciting one for those who can afford it and the sensible one for those that save money. Neither is a "bad" option at all but they may appeal to different people in different situations.

+2 The fun of a study abroad semester can be a nice carrot for choosing the delay-start option and still is lower cost than a lot of comparable private schools.

+3 Great that both options are provided. I can afford the Verto option and DD is excited about it. Will be a fun experience for her, more independence than staying at home/CC, and shared with a good cohort of kids she will transfer in with in January. Her second choice is private, which I was totally willing to pay for, so overall will save a little money on the first year and save more in the following years.

As far as I know. Learn something new everyday

Did you contact the school and they said that?

I'm not the prior poster, but I'm guessing waitlisted student would not be able to attend because they techically won't be admitted until they complete the requirements for their chosen spring pathway (which wouldn't happen until the end of fall semester). I believe that they will do a separate orientation for spring admits later on, which I assume would address special considerations that would affect spring admits like housing.

They do a special one week orientation in January.

Bump. Spring pathways kids are invited to no orientations or info sessions at WM this spring. I know about the 5 day orientation in January, but it is just unfortunate because dc is visiting schools with admitted students days this spring and trying to decide. He doesn’t want to feel like a 2nd class citizen by doing this.

If he received a link to register for the event in his portal (which is why I assume he is attending), then I do not see an issue.

Since waitlisted students can't attend, they can also reach out to the school for a more personalized tour with the particular department of your child's interest or maybe even reach out to a current student for a tour. We did something like this for another school bc we couldn't coordinate our schedule to attend the admitted students day. It worked out well, as we got to see and learn about things that were the most important to us.

They are not invited, but rather have an orientation in the Spring. Just set up a separate tour. Go see the campus and walk around yourselves.

What happens at orientation? I know that it probably is not the same as an admitted students day, but at those events it didn't seem like there were too many opportunities to get to know other students. I assume that orientation will be different. Overall, what were the pros of attending W&M? We are still trying to make our decision.

I can't speak to the Spring Pathways orientation - our kid was a fall transfer in 2023 after their freshman year. There is a transfer orientation which is separate from freshman orientation, which I am guessing is what Spring Pathways orientation is - kids in a cohort with other Spring Pathways kids.

The transfers were in a cohort with other transfer students. Our kid met a lot of other transfers and got acclimated to the school through a lot of programs before classes started.
