William and Mary Spring Pathways

DS is considering. He could really use a bit more time before jumping in fully. He would not choose the Study Abroad option, but the NOVA 12 credit option. The only worry is that he will have trouble connecting with friends/clubs/groups in the Spring. But, I'm thinking the Pathways group would be kind of a cohort? Any experiences with this? Thank you.

Same here. DS is accepted at some other good choices too so, not sure what we’re gonna do here.

Anyone have their DC participate?

My kid was a 2022 fall admit. But know spring admits and their parents are on the parents page. The program is by all accounts a big success— although the biggest cheerleaders did have kids go overseas and come in knowing their cohort from that program. It seems like VA kids on Pathways have a full orientation and integrate well. A lot of transfers are also spring admits, so it is a decent sized cohort.

Biggest downside seems to be that housing is tight. So kids are placed where there is space. Usually because a junior goes overseas in the spring. So they aren’t in a freshman dorm. As is often the case, this seems to bother parents more than kids.

DD is likely doing Verto London. There is a Spring Pathways Class of 2027 FB group that has the info/experiences of last year’s parents. Both Verto and CC. If you request to join and answer the questions that your child is WL this year, the mods will let you in.

Also if interested in Verto London there is a Verto London 2022 FB group that was public to join. Lots more intel. Great feedback from both of these groups.

Is there any other social media that the kids of spring pathways cohort use? Not the parents. I doubt the kids are on a Fb group.

You could have your kid ask on the W&M subreddit.

Anyone feedback on the community college option?

My kid is considering the nova option as well. Don’t know anything about it other than what’s on WMs website.

Does anyone know if you can attend the Day for Admitted Students if you’re considering Spring Pathways? Technically you’re not admitted, you’re still on the waitlist.

That's a good question. I wonder if they can attend the DFAS or if there is a special program for waitlisted students (perhaps a program where they can speak to other students who went through the same pathways so that could see the benefits and drawbacks of going in that direction).

Not the same situation but our kid transferred into W&M this past fall and it has been a really seamless transition. Great orientation experience and has made great friends.

What happens at orientation? I know that it probably is not the same as an admitted students day, but at those events it didn't seem like there were too many opportunities to get to know other students. I assume that orientation will be different. Overall, what were the pros of attending W&M? We are still trying to make our decision.

I'm assuming if your admissions portal has info on it, then DFAS and Green & Gold days should be open to waitlisted students. If not, you should contact admissions and ask. For some reason, I don't picture them saying no. It doesn't seem like there is a huge group that takes advantage of the pathway each year anyways (though I could be wrong).

Yes it looks like only about 75-100 students do spring pathways each year. Just feels weird it’s like going to a job orientation when you don’t have the job yet 😜

I don’t think WL students can attend DFAS or Green and Gold Days. But let us know if you hear otherwise!
