Yes, if you are skinny and work in a creative industry you can confidently pull these off. Some of us mere mortals probably need to make other plans for denim to wear in regular rotation. |
Given your age and shape, I recommend Spanx jeans. For daytime casual - I would go for a straight leg, or wide leg crop. Spanks makes a kick flare that is also a great option. If you go with the dark rinse wash, these jeans also dress up well: https://spanx.com/collections/jeans/products/kick-flare-jeans-raw-indigo?variant=43014975455443 The spanx wide crop, which I find to be very forgiving to my midsection. Somehow the patch pockets make it better, though I thought they would make my belly look worse: https://spanx.com/collections/jeans/products/cropped-wide-leg-jeans-shaded-blue?variant=43015309131987 Also, one thing that is different about casual looks that are currently trendy - wide leg, pleated trousers are very current, and worn very casually, the way women typically style denim casually. I find them often more comfortable than my jeans. For weekend daytime casual, this wide leg chino pair is great with a fitted tee and sneakers and has become my go to. https://www.madewell.com/the-harlow-wide-leg-pant-NG521.html?dwvar_NG521_color=NA5676&cgid=newshops-trend-harlow#intcmp='_vis-nav1_harlow&start=8 |
I think this is a style that would likely flatter someone who is overweight because it would provide balance to your top and bottom half. Certainly better than skinny jeans. |
| I'm long waisted and 5'7". I'm finally embracing higher waisted jeans. They've been hard to get used to but I do think they're more flattering. |

I'm 41, 5'3 and a size 27
I just bought both of these and get a lot of complements. The first is definitely flattering, the second definitely isn't trying to make you look as thin as possible but does give you a nice butt https://www.motherdenim.com/products/the-hustler-roller-sneak-heirloom https://evereve.com/meg-wide-leg-with-cuff-57851-c#color=11 |
Oh boy, truly everything old is new again! |
Well yes, there's only so many ways a pair of jeans can be cut and the teens / early 20s will always evolve to cuts different from what their moms and grandmas are currently wearing so it does become very circular Also these are the trends that have made it to the moms as cool - I'm sure the 18yos are already moving on to something different. which is fine. i don't get why some people think moms and their daughters should be wearing the exact same trends and cuts at the exact same time |
Oh wow. The second ones are straight up culottes. My mom wore those in the 70s! |
My very hip niece was visiting from NYC over spring break and she wore a variation of the loose trouser + fitted tee each day and looked amazing. I will never give up my 501s, but did start trouser shopping right away! Such a cool casual vibe. And loose, lightweight trousers will be great for a DC spring/early summer. |
