women’s jeans - what’s in style?

They are trendy. You are just old.

Basically the more androgynous the jeans look, the more trendy. But at 50 I wouldn’t be following that. I’d go for some classic straight jeans.

This is fine but only if you’re a size 2 to 8. They might have some 32s but not enough to make it worth going. If you are a larger size you have to order online.

Straight legs are definitely the most versatile style and will go with most any casual shoe. I’d err on the side of a slightly wider leg opening—nothing smaller than 14 inches. For me, 14 or 15 is the sweet spot. Longer lengths and finished hems are coming back in style but you’d probably get more wear from an ankle length pair at this time of year.

For dressier occasions, I’d look at a darker wash trouser jean or bootcut. Wide legs are super-trendy at the moment, but much harder to wear, IMO. For summer, you could also go with something in white or ecru. If you wear more flats, I’d get ankle length. If you prefer heels, full length is probably better.

I agree with all the above, except I think there are some wide legs that are not too hard to wear. Frame has a a lot of dark rinse or white white palazzos and crop flares that would be gorgeous in summer with an off the shoulder top. I know OP wants a universal, year round jean, and straight leg is best for that - but that could be good to look at for a third pair. Pretty classic! OP, I've actually gotten some nice jeans from Vineyard Vines and ... Of all places...Marks and Spencers online has really durable jeans for a steal. The sizes are true as well - US 8/UK12 etc.

OP, one other style you may consider that I have in my closet and reach for over and over is what I would call "slacks or sleek trousers". I have a pair from COS of all places that are soft, dark rinse, and have a slacks cut - kind of gently widen - that is very forgiving and looks great year round. Just a thought!

Lilly Pulitzer has some nice summer pants/jeans that are classic. On the skinny side, but not stretch jeans/pants.

I had this same question and the internet told me we need to wear "horseshoe jeans" in 2024... so we can look like Yosemite Sam, I guess? My ballet teacher once told me I'm a little bow-legged, so maybe I can lean in to that!

These are the barrel jeans discussed above. I hadn’t heard them called horseshoe jeans yet. Ugly no matter what the name.

Hideous. OP that is an example of what not to get even if they are "in style."

Flare or wide leg jeans. I saw them on women of all ages when I visited NYC recently. I also have seen more women starting to wear boot cut jeans lately.

I have these and you can wear them with heels (shoes) and ballet flats but not boots, which is annoying. I am overall annoyed by them. but i have them.

Not OP but can you link this COS jeans? I've been looking for a pair like this as well!
