Well, it’s happening - the House just gave control of RFK field to DC

Redskins is never coming back, no matter how hard and how often you stomp your feet. Deal with it.

English, please.

No, it's not linked to the short term spending bill

Haha what now? Keep it coming with these brilliant ideas!

Ew, no thank you. NFL stadiums are never good for the places that host them.

Looked to see if there was an update on this bill and when it went to the senate, the last action on 3/5 states it was "Read twice and referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources"

https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/4984/all-actions?

I looked up the committee schedule and don't see anything related to this bill, their next scheduled meeting is related to consideration of nominees to rhe Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Does the commitment review smaller bills independent of meetings?

Otherwise does this bill seem likely to die in senate committee, never to see further action? Any political folks with more knowledge of how this might proceed?

Most people I’ve spoken with want a great park, like Brooklyn’s famous Prospect Park at the RFK site. A beautifully landscaped, passive park, with giant towering American Elms, undulating grassy meadows, a lake with paddle boats, and a cafe overlooking the lake. Maybe some new housing around the edges, but that’s all.

Nothing is happening whatsoever if the latest bill dies in committee. I abhor that the Federal government owns this piece of land for which it has no beneficial interest. It is not a massive natural park or resource. It is a blighted mass of broken asphalt.

I could care less and I do deal with it by not supporting the Commoders.
And I am far, far from alone.

I live walking distance to RFK and wouldn't mind if they did it as mixed use.

I rarely see mentioned in discussions of RFK that a good portion of it is a flood plain. There shouldn't be major digging for underground parking there, though I have zero faith DC leadership will care.

lol who have you talked to, people on your Hill block with exactly the same demographics and politics as you? I talk to plenty of people who want football to come back to RFK. personally I would like a stadium with housing and some public greenspace preserved. But not a “great park.” Kingsman Island is underutilized as is.

The biggest hurdle was the House denying DC an asset b/c the GOP doesn’t like city livin liberals. This is part of the short term spending bill that’s basically must-pass.

My guess is that the Washington ownership group sprinkled money all over the GOP caucus in the House.

It’s done.

wait til the attach it to the NDAA 😂

The toxic waste on Kingman Island is still being removed: https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/03/06/kingman-island-cleanup-anacostia/

For the health of all concerned, its a damn good thing that it remains "underutilized" until the cleanup is complete.
