So much for the crime narrative 😆
Commanders are coming back to DC, baby. |
| It has to pass the Senate. Is that actually going to happen? Political insiders, what's your take? |
The biggest hurdle was the House denying DC an asset b/c the GOP doesn’t like city livin liberals. This is part of the short term spending bill that’s basically must-pass. My guess is that the Washington ownership group sprinkled money all over the GOP caucus in the House. It’s done. |
| Finally, a boondoggle for Bowser to spend money on. |
| From what I'm reading online and the PP's comment, it does seem like this is going to pass the senate? |
| Also, how long would it take for the senate to bring this to the floor for a vote? |
|
Make changing the name back to the Redskins a condition.
And screw FEDEX! |
No. |
|
sooo maybe will pass the senate? If someone is willing to carry the bill.
"First the bill will head to the Senate, where at the moment there is no obvious mantle-carrier to advocate for it. D.C. bills rarely get stand-alone consideration on the Senate floor, and the RFK bill would be subject to the filibuster, requiring the support of 60 senators to advance. Some noncontroversial bills can go up for a unanimous consent vote — though that would also be highly unlikely because of a certain pair of Marylanders who also want the Commanders to stay in their state." https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/02/28/rfk-stadium-dc-house-passes-bill-redevelop-commanders/?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=wp_local&utm_source=twitter |
| Believe Charles Allen tweeted about how this space could be better used to build lodging for the city’s unhoused and underprivileged. |
|
The space definitely has better uses than a professional football stadium that would be used 8-10 times per year. At this point, maybe the Mayor can offer up some of it to Ted for his sports and entertainment complex, though it would have some of the same transportation issues, though not as bad, as Potomac Yards.
Either way, as long as there aren't acres of surface parking lots, then it might not be too bad. |
Racists are so weird. |
It'll more likely be attached to some other legislation that the Senate has to pass, rather than come to the Senate floor for a freestanding vote. |
This is good news, this influx of money would improve local economy and real estate values. People who can't fix or sell their houses, can sell their properties for good prices and move where their dollar goes long way. |
Senate would be crazy to reject a desperately needed influx of money. No? |
