| Is your kid regretting? Is there a reason they wanted a harder school? Location? Their major? |
It is a bummer! Not just skate but have a winter carnival out there and also some other parties. But my DD says the lack of those parties is offset but the fact that it isn't that cold which is great. Although her idea of cold and mine are significantly different since she has lived in Madison for 3 years! |

Your kid got into a top 10 national university. Just be happy and let the rest go. If they aren't happy at Chicago, they should have loads of transfer opportunities if they do well in their first semester.
|
The OP's kid is already committed and anxious, which doesn't sound fun. Being prepared can help lessen the anxiety. |
, OP, most of my kid's friends who are there are liking it. There has been a definite change in culture in the social direction. The campus is so lovely. And if your kid had the academic cahoots to get in, I am sure they don't mind putting in the study time. And all of them love Chicago. |
This^^^ Why are you chasing "top names" if your kid isn't 100% certain they want to attend? |
| DC is there with no regrets. The quarter system can feel accelerated but many students take only three classes during the first quarter to get adjusted, and then take four in the second quarter. If your DS was admitted ED2 he probably has pretty strong credentials and has probably been pushing himself pretty hard in HS and loading up on extracurriculars on top of that. In college a lot of that falls away and kids have more time. Traditionally, UChicago has a very low transfer rate, which suggests that they are are doing a good job selecting kids who will be suited to the experience. |
| OP - Can you give us some insight on whether it was your kid’s decision or your decision to apply ED2. To the extent it was your decision that your kid went along with but wasn’t excited about, how much did desperation/anxiety to go to a brand name school play into that? And was that desperation driven by your desire to tell others that your kid is at a brand name school or do you honestly think that he will have a better life as a result and thus it was worth overriding what your child actually wanted? |
| So normal. |
| My twins got into harvard REA, but now we're really regretting applying there. They don't know if they should be happy while they wait on others. This is really stressing our family out right now. |
If your DC came from a top DC private (Sidwell, STA/NCS/GDS) - they will be fine. Likely same from Potomac, Holton, Maret assuming they got into Chicago by being top performer in high rigor courses. |
this has to be a troll! |
Obviously, because if they applied REA they don't have to go. |
Op here. Dc's decision on EDII. TBH, after not getting in ED, a kind of panic set in about bot getting in to a good school. Hence EDII. |
This is unwarranted. Chicago is a great school obviously, but is also a rather tough/demanding academic environment. It shouldn't be shocking that one might have second thoughts (and a bit of impostor syndrome). I know top DMV kids who had a pretty tough time there. |
