How much do you spend per sport in a year? Or per kid for a year?

Parents shouldn't be spending that amount on a kid who is a tier 3 player. Yikes.

How can you know this? He is still young.

How do I know? #1. She’s a girl. There are only around 3 dozen D1 women’s hockey teams. #2. Shes a goalie. Teams don’t take goalies every year. And only need 2 goalies. Much less chance making a team as a goalie than as a skater. #3 she loves hockey but her major will be more important so she won’t pick a school based on if they have a team and will let her play. #4 we don’t need it for scholarship so we won’t pressure her to play in college. So yeah she’s 11 but we’re realistic. She won’t play in college.

Hockey is an expensive sport. He plays lower a. There are several house leagues below travel. My son is still developing and may move up over the years. There are a lot of good hockey players in the area.

That’s not why we do it. I am not expecting a payoff. I can afford it and my kids loves it.

Ditto! It teaches so much that they won’t ever learn quite the same way in school. Discipline, persistence, cooperation, etc.

I compete on a more modest level in dressage. Each show weekend costs me around $2k and I show 5 times per year. My horse cost mid-fives and my training costs are around $700/month. Horse care about the same because I am in a lower COL area.

I know it takes some skill but is it really a sport when the horse is doing all the jumping and hard work?

Try it! Come back and tell us what you think, but you have to ride for an hour and canter.
