How long is your commute to work?

17 miles, 45 minutes to an hour. Or 1 hr 15 minutes if I do preschool dropoff (3x/wk during most recent school year). Would LOVE to work closer to home. Home closer to work isn't an option - spouse works in opposite direction.

After kid: about 70 minutes each way, not including daycare dropoff and pickup. Dropoff/pickup 3 miles from my house and metro means I'm on the road over 3 hours a day. It sucks ass. (Drive to metro, park, ride into DC.) Driving to work generally shaves 30 minutes off the evening commute but doesn't help the morning commute. Strongly considering a move to South Arlington, with a new daycare.

I feel your pain.

Takes me 45 minutes in the morning to get to work-DH does drop off. If I don't have to do day pick up, coming home takes between 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. However, I pick DC up from day care approx. 3 times per week and then the commute home is 2 hours. My commute is the most stressful part of my life.

I am also 3.5 miles from my work location but have clocked an average of 7 minutes to get from home to work in the AM and about 10-12 minutes in the evening. I am in Springfield near Fort Belvoir. I feel sorry for my coworkers who feel the need to rush out of the office at 4:29PM to get on I-95 S and spend another 60-90 minutes in traffic. My ability to stay later has allowed me a lot of facetime with the boss at the end of the day; I find I learn a lot by just being around for him to decompress to....

My gosh, I'm shocked at some of these answers what with the time:distance ratios.

We are 31.9 miles from my husband's office. His commute is about an hr up the 95 on a commuter bus into DC.

I'm shocked that we could have paid much much more for our home much closer to DC and had the same commute.

1:45 minutes one way. Baltimore to Silver Spring on Marc. Luckily, I only do that two days a week -- the rest is WAH.

I live in Falls Church. It takes me 15 minutes to walk to Metro and about 25 minutes on Metro, then maybe 5 minutes to my office. So about 45. If I drove, I could go 66 (HOV with my hybrid) and be in to my desk in about 25-30 minutes. I'm contemplating a bike to get to metro. I think it could cut 7 minutes or so.

I've tried 29, 50 and 495 to 395. 495 to 395 is surprisingly not longer, even with the additional mileage. It's slow the last few miles into DC but it's a straighter shot to some parts of DC than Constitution. I commute to 7th/E NW and it's about 55-60 minutes on any of those routes.

I hear ya on the construction, though. Stupid beltway construction is killing my drive to the daycare pickup - 3 miles on 2 roads should NOT take 30+ minutes, even in rush hour. Stupid.

yes, I've tried that way too (I live in Merrifield - we must be neighbors), but it gets so backed up where Duke Street merges and then again by the Pentagon. Soooo painfully slow....
Even taking Rt. 50 all the way into the city is tough (the traffic lights are so poorly timed).

I'm trying to figure out if Lee Hwy goes all the way into DC...
