The overwrought melodrama of the Keira Knightley version is more suitable for a Charlotte Brontë novel than Pride and Prejudice. She was more measured. More genteel. Like the 1995 BBC version. |
About to turn 48 and vote for Firth/Ehle. |
That's not saying much. |
Lizzie in the Firth version was cold, flat, boring, and unlikeable. Zero passion. Firth was uncharacteristically flat, too. |
Firth is 1800s, 1900s, and 2000s handsome. |
I like Keira Knightley’s version overall, but like Colin Firth as Darcy. |
Firth version ftw. |
+1! I also love Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth. She played Elizabeth in a way that indicated Elizabeth understood her place in the world/her future as an unmarried woman. Knightley didn't capture that at all, IMO. I actually think McFadyen was good as Darcy. I just like Colin Firth much better in the role. |

Ehle captures the embarrassment that Lizzie feels on a frequent basis so, so well I think. In the book Lizzie is frequently incredibly embarrassed by her family and Ehle does a great job portraying that I think. Lizzie wasn’t a free spirit running around with her hair down, defying social norms. She acted very well bred in the book, her spiritedness was restrained and not very public (she dressed down the aunt in the book, but in private, as an example) |

MacFadyen was excellent as Darcy. |
Kiera version |
firth/ehle feels like a documentary. fayden version is a more like a typical romantic movie. |
I think the opposite l. It was great casting. I like both but Firth/Ehle was better - 54 |
