Also interesting that they aren’t offering transfers out of Gunston considering the whole brouhaha over redrawing middle school boundaries

Prioritized MS transfers this year are students zoned for TJ and Swanson. Gunston must be behind those in crowding.

Gunston enrollment went down after finding almost 100 non-residents.

That is shocking. I hope they were charged tuition even if it’s after the fact.

I am convinced there are thousands of students attending APS that do not live within boundaries. It's been a huge problem for years and years.

I don't know about thousands, but you are on the right track...

This is not new. They have been doing this since they opened the annex. My kid transferred in from Yorktown and we don’t get a bus. We were prevented from doing full IB because it’s not supposed to be a back door in, but that wasn’t a factor in our decision to transfer. This isn’t a big deal because we didn’t get a bus to Yorktown either and it’s actually a shorter walk to WL from my house.

As to the out of boundary folks, I see cars with Maryland plates dropping off in the AM, but I am generous and presume it’s the nanny.

Many Yorktown neighborhoods are in the W-L walk zone so that makes sense there’s no bus. I am surprised that non-IB transfers are prevented from doing the full IB diploma. But that may make sense since IB is a specialised application program where resources and staffing are very focused. Students can still take the “most rigorous” # of AP classes.

Or a divorced, non-custodial parent. Or military.

But yeah, checking residency beginning at middle school and high school again this year.
