Transfers to W-L possible

A limited # of Wakefield students can transfer to either W-L or Yorktown with transportation provided. Info is on the APS website.

I know that. Why aren’t they providing transportation for Yorktown transfers from hubs, given that they are already transporting Yorktown IB transfers? Why transportation for all Wakefield kids and IB Yorktown only.

Can’t those students just hop on the IB bus even if they’re not IB transfers . That’s how it worked out in the past. Or so I was led to believe. You should inquire with APS.

Also students can ride the public bus for free. W-L is close to multiple bus lines and the Metro subway. But I don’t think the subway is subsidized for Arlington students.

That's correct. DS is an IB transfer and his bus has neighborhood transfer kids. No one is checking.

Because on average WHS students are poorer, and it’s a long drive than from YHS neighborhoods. APS is counting on the wealthy YHS families to provide own transport and save APS money.

I wish someone had told me that there would be 175 more kids in my child’s HS class at W&L over Yorktown. I know it’s public info but the fact gets clouded in all the minutiae about programs and transportation and differences in sports etc. My child is going to be in a class of nearly 700 kids. I get that most of you are ok with this but just too big for the educational experience I want for my kid.

Wow you really haven’t been paying attention.

How did you miss the whole 4th high school drama, the 600 seat addition at WL, the many newspaper articles about how XL WL will be the solution for high school overcrowding.

But don’t worry, because the school has so many students it can support a variety esoteric sports like competitive full contact corn hole.

You are lucky, they still plan to add at least 400 more students over next four years (hence the open transfers as stop gap till new boundaries).

Sorry, I usually try to be nice, but this is the most prima donna statement. The information is there and it's not clouded at all. It's been there for years. Schools have websites, follow the news, read the emails that come out. Do you do any of that? https://wl.apsva.us/about-us/school-profile/

Gunston enrollment went down after finding almost 100 non-residents.

I am convinced there are thousands of students attending APS that do not live within boundaries. It's been a huge problem for years and years.

Yeah we intentionally bought YHS zone because of the planned expansion at WL.

Yes. This is why they are are doing residency verification now when you move to 6th and 9th grades. Before, it was never really looked at again after kindergarten enrollment.
