Men are responding to your somewhat obvious efforts: highlighted hair, face full of make-up, petite frame with a form-fitting outfit and the fact that you give them encouraging eye contact. Appearance is obviously something you dissect and discuss with your daughter at home- she rushed to tell you someone thought you were cute because she knew it would bring pleasure. A bit disingenuous to come on here asking about what “cute” means.

You guys are hilarious with your assumptions. DD is away at college and texted me what her friend said, we didn’t discuss or dissect anything. Anyway, why am I being disingenuous?

I do appreciate the posters who provided exactly what I was looking for: a simple, clear, and non-judgmental response.

I'm going to have to assume that whoever called you cute did not actually have a conversation with you because you are so prickly and defensive that nothing about it comes off as cute. Maybe enjoy the compliment on your appearance and hope they don't realize how sensitive you are.

Not sensitive at all, but I’m having fun reading silly replies from total strangers. Where else would I get a chance to do this?

Good lord! Some of you are grouchy!

Where did I say I was offended?

Just stop.

“Cute” means you passed the dateable/not dateable test.

“Cute!” If he’s texting this to friends it means he’s into you.

“Cuuute” means he thinks you’re sexy and he is aroused.

Last year at 40 I dated a 32 year old and he often described me as cute. I like guys with a bigger vocabulary but this is what I deciphered.

My mother explained it to me as: "Short women are cute. Tall women are beautiful. Think about the song 'tall and tan and young and lovely', no one would write a song praising being short." This was when I was a teen in explanation for why she referred to my sister as beautiful and myself as cute. LOL

I would as well.

Being called “cute” is akin to being called pretty or even beautiful. ❤️

Are you cute as a button?

I would rather be described as stunningly beautiful.

I am often described as cute, sometimes pretty, sometimes very pretty, beautiful, but never stunningly beautiful.

And that Chenowith woman or Kelly Ripa.

Short and/or petite.

What? Plenty of short women are drop dead beautiful. Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer love Hewitt, Sydney Sweeney, America Ferrera, Scarlett Johansson.. .

Most tall women are beastly in my opinion. Helen Hunt may as well be a man.

I get beautiful and/or sexy. Stunning sometimes.

I think it’s the dark hair and almond shaped light blue gray eyes with olive skin. Also very proportional fit 5’6” but look taller.

Oh, you’re tremendously insecure. Who fishes for compliments from strangers, then calls them silly when you don’t like their response/ and who lacks the basic wherewithal to discern what “cute” means except for desperate thirsty women seeking affirmation on their own looks - they took time to answer your questions and you insult them like A child. Trust me- if you don’t know you’re attractive by late 40s, you aren’t and the “cute” was a nice way of not calling you unattractive

Odd post. Jennifer Lawrence is 5-9. That's short? How tall does a woman have to be to qualify as "tall" and "beastly"? Also, I can't imagine anyone thinking America Ferrera is drop dead beautiful even on her best day. Cute maybe.
