I understand the TV if you all have tablets/phones/laptops. But it sounds like maybe you and your spouse have those things and child has no tablet. So you get to go monkey around on dcum or whatever you do for leisure and they have no tablet? They are 7, it's not going to hurt their brain. Anyways, TV would be best for kids vs tablets for screentime. Don't you like to watch a movie as a family sometimes? I'm low income and even my house has some tvs, there's no excuse to not have a TV for your kids to use every once in awhile. |

I don’t have an excuse to not have a tv. We just don’t. We wouldn’t use it enough to be worth it. I have a phone because I am an adult with a job. My DH has a phone for similar reasoning. No iPad or phone for the kids. There will come a time when they get a phone but probably not for at least a few years. DH and I don’t have an iPad either. If our kids want one as they get older they are free to get one. I wouldn’t stop them. I’m just not going to purchase one. We also both have computers we allow both children to access with supervision. They enjoy looking up topics they’re interested with, chatting with friends and playing games. So they do get screen time, just not passive screen time. Since my daughter will not be able to use her hands we are implementing TV time. And as I stated in the OP they have seen movies and TV. We go to the movies as a family outing fairly frequently. Probably at least once a month. These kids aren’t shielded from screens 24/7. They just don’t have access to a lot of it at home. |
| My 8 year old likes Amaury Guichon videos on Youtube. He makes amazing chocolate creations. Also she watches lego food type things. |

I think she’d LOVE Inbestigators on Netflix. It’s Australian and about a group of kids a little older than her who investigate “mysteries” at their school.
Izzy Koala World and Nailed It might also be good pics on Netflix My kids also like American Ninja Warrior Jr and Where’s Waldo on Peacock. |

Different kids are different. Different families are different. Parents should do as they think best for their children and their family. |

We happen not to have a TV either, and to be honest we would not have the free time to watch one if we did have one. DC love to play with their toys, ride bicycles, run around the backyard, and read books. Even when we are staying in a hotel with a TV, the DC just have no real interest in TV or movies. Parents both work outside home, so beyond our work hours we mostly just eat, sleep, do laundry, clean house, buy groceries, cook, and care for DC.
It is wonderful that others have a lot of free time. We just happen not to have any. Mileage varies. |
| If your kid likes legos, Lego Masters is great. |
|
Ninjago and Rabbids are all the rage in our house. She also likes the new Barbie and Storybots.
For cooking shows, Is It Cake, Bake Squad, and Nailed It. |

This reminds me of a friend I had who had a newborn at the same time as me. She was obsessed with baby led weaning and years later its been a running joke with my husband how she used to say "My Larlo wouldn't even know what to do if I tried to feed him that runny baby food stuff, he wouldn't know how to eat it"
Like this child was destined to never enjoy soup or applesauce lol Ill leave you to draw the connections between that friend and OP here. |

Just Add Magic is the best show my DD has watched, but she was a bit older (9 I think) when she did.
Lots of good ones already mentioned (Bluey, Storybots, baking shows, Lego Masters). Brainchild and Unicorn Academy are pretty good too. |

It's mind blowing to me that people don't understand that families do things differently. |
| I do not understand the people criticizing OP for not having a tv in her house when she is LITERALLY ASKING WHAT HER KID SHOULD WATCH ON TV. I mean, COME ON. What is wrong with you people? Clearly she's not controlling/limiting/whatever, she's trying to find TV shows for her kid to watch. People are so crazy and OP is not one of those people. |
