Not true. The individual programs all send emails. Perhaps for acceptances only, I’m not sure as we only got acceptances.

So usually there is notification from MCPS about acceptances (or not) and then a day or two later there are emails from the actual programs congratulating them on their acceptance and giving more info about how to accept the invitation (or not).

Not last year. Emails with acceptances mostly 2-4pm then document on ParentVue at about 7pm.

2 years ago it was well organized. Result were published all at once in parentVue on a Friday at 6 or 7pm. It was a single document in the Documents tab that listed all the programs that your kid applied to and status of acceptance for each program.

Not last year. Emails congratulating students came out first from individual programs, then ParentVue notification the same day but several hours later. Tbh it was the same with the middle school magnet decisions last year with emails of congratulations from the schools first and the process was exactly the same this year.

Ouch. Okay. Do people get rejection emails?

I really really don't care the outcome of this but I'd rather my kid not get a rejection letter in class.

You will get a notification either way for all programs your kid applied to.

That’s not what she’s asking. You’ll get notified via ParentVue either way. What isn’t clear is if the schools sending out acceptance emails before the ParentVue results are posted also send rejection emails.

The email that i got this morning states "The results for each program will be posted on one document in the ParentVUE account". There is no mention of communicating through email. I wonder if they learned from last year's hiccups and are being more organized this year.

I believe it will be mostly today, I heard in high schools they are preparing for new student orientation on Tuesday. So it may be today to give enough time for parents to plan for it.

That statement does not contradict the process last year. The results for each program were posted in one document in ParentVue, but it was after emails were sent too from individual programs. Given that the middle school magnet process panned out the same way this year as last year (with emails from individual programs going first, before the ParentVue doc) I’d think there’s a high chance of the same thing happening.

Anonymous wrote:I am not sure if this post will be well-received or not, but I was in your shoes five years ago. DD was accepted to her first choice magnet and is a graduating senior now. Looking back at her education and courses, we both sometimes wish she had simply gone with the regular cohort and classes. There are plusses and minuses, so don't think your kid can't have a wonderful experience in HS whether they get in or not. A few plusses have been--good behavior in class, smaller group of kids to be in classes with, feeling a sense of accomplishment with the pending degree. The minuses include not having nearby friends, a less flexible schedule, and a whole lot of pressure for what seems like very little gain in terms of college admissions.

Just remember, the best predictor of your child's academic success is parental involvement and a culture of caring about education. Not what school you went to or what program you were in.

That said, good luck to all! But know it will be ok, even more than ok, either way.

+1. This should be read by parents who are here and are getting anxious of the HS magnet results. We can all hope for our kids to go to good (and safe) schools, but at the end of the day, what we teach them about life, about setting realistic goals, and working towards the things that are important to them (including their happiness and their well-being) will be the most critical parts of their journey into adulthood.
