MCPS High School Magnet Decisions

Anyone think we'll hear today, or do you think it'll be Monday?

I hope today. I am not going to tell my DD because she will be wound up all weekend (she applied for the VAC at Einstein and would be heartbroken if she doesn't get in). Plus, UMD - College Park acceptances are coming out today so this is a big few days in our house and I would love for us to have a great celebration dinner tonight! Fingers crossed for my kids and all the others who applied!

It’s not the first week of February, so I doubt it. Last year they came out on Thursday Feb 2 starting about 2pm.

They sent an email this morning saying letters would be posted to ParentVUE no later than Monday evening 1/29

I called the various high school programs DD applied to so I could find out the dates of the open houses for rising 9th to have some sense of evening commitments the next two weeks.

The RMIB person I spoke with was quite certain that families would know all of their results by tonight. Given the MCPS email, that may have gotten delayed a day, but my best guess is that something might come this afternoon once school is out. Given high school counselors are visiting middle schools starting Monday, February 5, I would think MCPS would want to give people the weekend to look at course catalogs and think through their options. At least that's what I'm hoping!

High school counselors have already started visiting middle schools.

Last year it was a mess as kids started getting their notifications while in class. I think they’ll wait until the end of the day.

Just FYI last year they started arriving as emails to students around 1:30pm while they were in class. It was chaos. You will not be able to hide this from your kids, because they will be notified, too.
