Last year it was a mess as kids started getting their notifications while in class. I think they’ll wait until the end of the day.

+1 The kids got the results in real time at school last year and, well, they didn't all handle it with kindness.

Or their friends will. So if Larla doesn't get an email buy Bobby does, they all figure out that Bobby is in and Larla is out by 1:34pm.

That's terrible.

School systems should know better.

Except the emails didn’t all arrive simultaneously. I freaked out (a little) seeing that the Blair acceptances were out via DCUM (which I’d been obsessively checking). About 15 minutes later my kid’s acceptance arrived.

Timing last year:

Emails from RMIB at 2:15pm
From Blair magnet at 2:36pm
From CAP at 3:10pm
From regional IB at 4:10pm
From Wheaton engineering the next day at 10am, but this was moot because the full ParentVue results were posted by about 7pm.

Very exciting (kid was very lucky and got in to all) but also very nerve wracking.

Good luck everyone!!

Not true. The individual programs all send emails. Perhaps for acceptances only, I’m not sure as we only got acceptances.

I am not sure if this post will be well-received or not, but I was in your shoes five years ago. DD was accepted to her first choice magnet and is a graduating senior now. Looking back at her education and courses, we both sometimes wish she had simply gone with the regular cohort and classes. There are plusses and minuses, so don't think your kid can't have a wonderful experience in HS whether they get in or not. A few plusses have been--good behavior in class, smaller group of kids to be in classes with, feeling a sense of accomplishment with the pending degree. The minuses include not having nearby friends, a less flexible schedule, and a whole lot of pressure for what seems like very little gain in terms of college admissions.

Just remember, the best predictor of your child's academic success is parental involvement and a culture of caring about education. Not what school you went to or what program you were in.

That said, good luck to all! But know it will be ok, even more than ok, either way.

Ouch. Okay. Do people get rejection emails?

I really really don't care the outcome of this but I'd rather my kid not get a rejection letter in class.

2 years ago it was well organized. Result were published all at once in parentVue on a Friday at 6 or 7pm. It was a single document in the Documents tab that listed all the programs that your kid applied to and status of acceptance for each program.

Thank you PP. If the results aren't out yet by this afternoon I am going to have my DD read your post. She's in a friends group with some high achievers and it's all feeling a bit too "extra" in my opinion for high school.

Plus, UMD - College Park acceptances are coming out today so this is a big few days in our house and I would love for us to have a great celebration dinner tonight! Fingers crossed for my kids and all the others who applied!

Yes, lots of decisions coming today! Good luck to your kiddos!

Haha! Same in our house. 8th grader waiting to hear on high school programs and senior waiting to hear from two colleges today! Good luck to all of our kids!

So usually there is notification from MCPS about acceptances (or not) and then a day or two later there are emails from the actual programs congratulating them on their acceptance and giving more info about how to accept the invitation (or not).

You will get a notification either way for all programs your kid applied to.

Thanks. As the parent of an ambivalent magnet applicant (ambivalent for social and distance reasons), that’s good to hear.
