Tell me how much you tip your hair stylist

I tip on the total for the color but exclude a tip on the cost of the extra conditioner I am charged for.

I just had a cut/highlight. Highlighting is hard work. I tip 20% on the total and $5 to shampoo girl for cuts, $10 for when I have highlights (she had to wash out the foils/dye, apply toner, shampoo).

I don't care what others do. If someone is charging me $350+ for cut and coloring, they are not earning below minimum earning wage and not relying on tips to survive, specially if they own their salon. I can't give an extra $70+ and don't see it as justified. I don't mind tipping my nail salon immigrant Vietnamese lady 25% as she is getting below minimum wage.

Is this standard? I’m going to keep my current practice, but I’m wondering what’s normal for people who get a cut/color.

would tip 40-60 if I really love the final look would tip closer to 50-60

I tip 20 percent on total service and let my stylist sort out shampoo/blow dry girl . It shouldn’t cost me extra for her to chair/client hop during my appointment.

I tip 20% on the total when I get highlights and a cut (usually comes to almost $300 for both), plus $5 to the person who takes the foils out and washes my hair.

How magnanimous of you to tip an “immigrant Vietnamese lady.”

I tip mine 25% usually because she is amazing. Especially if it is a big color/cut treatment, or she fits me in last minute. For just touch up color I do 20% always.

You can afford $350 for your cut/color but not another $70? That reasoning makes no sense to me.

I tip $15/hour. I alternate root touches at hair cuttery (50) and a higher end salon (90). Same work deserves same tip.

You don't tip? Wondefring because I was considering this, as the prices have doubled in five years, and mostly right after covid. I don't think supplies have increased, I think people are just taking advantage, and raising their prices (like home contractors).

That is insanely expensive.

I agree this has happened in many industries. Unfortunately, none of the rest of us got raises, so now we can't afford those services anymore.

What do people pay for color, cut keratin? What do you tip?
