I am confused about how to tip mine..
Its a family owned salon. Husband, wife, SIL. Sometimes another person not related washes hair. I have always heard do not tip owners. But I always see them getting tipped (so I do too). |
| I tip 20% and give the shampoo assistant $5-10. |
| 20% on total. My stylist washes my hair herself. |
| How much do you tip the owner? Cut and color are $400, tip $80 in addition to that? |
| I always tip 20% of total including highlights cost. Yes it can be a very large tip but thought that was expected. I’m curious if more people say they don’t tip including the color/highlights. |
| 20% of total price, more if it's between Thanksgiving/New Years, because, holidays |
| I used to tip my colorist, who is the owner of salon, 10%. Then she raised her price so now I tip at all. |
|
*don’t tip at all
(Correction) |
| Oh no, I got my hair cut today for the first time in a long time, and tipped only $10 on a $90 cut. I feel terrible. Wish I had seen this thread earlier. |
|
I use to tip 20% on everything.
I now go to a no tip salon. |
| I tip $25 and 5 to hair cut person when I get my roots done. |
| 20% of total. Coloring is work, just like cutting. If they're coloring my hair, they can't be cutting someone else's so it makes zero sense to skip tipping on it. |
How do you find out if a salon is no tip? |
She has a chain of salons in three posh towns and there is a huge margin of profit in hair business. |
That's what I was doing until I paid attention to the math. |
