College and University Discussion
| Hillsdale. Ignore the haters who have no perception of what the school is really about. It would likely be a great fit for your daughter. |
Where is it? Never heard of it |
We also have entire threads by parents worried “will my LGBTQ kid be happy in Texas?” or “will my Jewish kid be comfortable at a Catholic college?” and nobody says “suck it up, buttercup, if you’re strong you’ll be fine!” |
|
You are going to get a random list due to lack of details.
What does kid want to study? Do they want to row? What parts of US are acceptable? Good lord. Provide some detail. Go look at a Fiske Guide. |
+1 My DD wanted similar and ended up applying ED to W&M. |
You can’t compare what you have just compared. These snowflakes who can’t handle people thinking differently are hilarious. And it’s way different than trying to be sure you won’t be beaten up for religion, skin color, etc. No one is attacking evangelical churches like they do synagogues. No one is spray painting your house or place of worship, OP. |

Note Dame is a top national university with a traditional atmosphere.
I agree with a previous poster that you might look at Hillsdale. University of Dallas? |
|
Liberty
St Lawrence Oral Roberts University |
? Why is st Lawrence sandwiched in here? |
| Definitely Hillsdale |
| Wait, so someone looking for a college with diverse points of view that are freely debated is a snowflake, and those who want everyone to be lock-step with their ideology… isn’t? |
I went to St. Lawrence and am highly offended being on a list with these other two schools! |
|
OP here: Sorry I don’t have more specifics. We’re just getting started in the process. But I love the free speech ranking, and W&M, BC, and Davidson sound like good cultural fits.
Curious why someone would suggest Liberty for a student seeking diversity of thought? But appreciate the suggestions nonetheless. |

I read Ruy Teixeira and in his commentary the other day he did note some data suggesting the youngest generation, aka OP's daughter's age range, is rejecting the woke progressive notions. Which might explain why we've started seeing a few parents looking for non-woke colleges.
My guess is that the big flagship state universities will have a lot of what OP is looking for. And Southern schools. Don't rule out places like Wake Forest, which may have wealthier students but there will be a range of kids too. Vanderbilt. U of Chicago. LACs like Denison. Claremont McKenna? |
