An open hearing does not allow for the follow up questions that a closed deposition allows. A closed hearing allows questioners to probe much more deeply than an open hearing allows. Closed deposition first, then open hearing.
And, as for your bolded accusation.....the transcripts are always made public so that pretty much ruins your argument.

Here’s Comer saying either a closed or open hearing is fine, though. Why so picky now?
