What’s difference between Holy Child and Stone Ridge?

Holy Child has wealthier families more hooks, connections, etc.

Both are wonderful. Holy Child is more prestigious, has more rigor, and is very well-known. Also, Holy Child has wealthier / more influential families.

Really? I have never even heard of Holy Child. Where is it located?

Well all the more reason to avoid if a top college is your goal...all those connections/hooks clearly aren't panning out.

If you're looking for strong college matriculation at an all girls school, try Holton or NCS.

I actually spoke to each of the schools discussed about college admissions and FWIW, was most impressed with HC's process. Their girls also seemed to receive the most significant amount of scholarships/merit aid, which to someone like me, who is not considered DCUM wealthy, was a big selling point. I will also say that my DD, who shadowed, remarked that of all or her shadow visits, the HC girls seemed to have the most genuine school spirit and really loved their school compared to what she saw at the other schools.

OMG do you not understand that scholarship (merit) monies come only from the second and third tier colleges that MUST offer scholarships to get certain students?

Umm do you realize that if 15% at SR are going to top 20 colleges then 85% are NOT? The MAJORITY of SR grads are going to “2nd and 3rd tier” colleges. So yes, many rich HC grads are getting merit scholarships to the exact same colleges SR grads are going to but the SR grads are not being offered merit scholarships.

I’m not sure what your point is. Are you a product of a SR education?

NP. How do you know the SR girls going to the 2nd and 3rd tier schools are not getting merit as well? I bet they got as much if not more.

Niche's ranking of Maryland private schools put SR at #8 and HC at #43. Enough said. https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-schools/s/maryland/?gradeLevel=middle&type=private

Whether or not you put credence in Niche rankings, the fact that the rankings are so far apart is quite striking. That's why I shared it. If you look at DC area schools, it is pretty much just as bad. That's not saying HC is a bad school. It is a good school. Just not as good as SR.

Everyone keeps saying HC is more "joyful." Can someone elaborate on this? What does that even mean?

OP asked specifically about middle school.....

Right, but I'd assume that also means they'd plan to stay through high school so upper school issues are at play.

DD is an SR grad, but she started in MS. MS was not great, definitely the weakest link in the school (at that time anyway), but upper school experience was excellent. Academics were challenging but not soul-crushing. We are not Catholic and it certainly felt very Catholic to us (not in a bad way, but the CINO line was not our experience). Nice range of extracurriculars and sports, a little something for everyone. Excellent college placement office--beyond just the final matriculation stats.

Isn't Bullis a good school? It's not ranked that high...where does it belong? I think the ranking is appropriate relative to the other schools.
