We didn’t pay for a private college counselor, essay coach or need test prep. 16 apps wasn’t that much $ taken in that context. |
+100 Bummed my kid out so much when two legacy with such lower stars got into his top choice. |

Everyone gets knocked down a tier. When UW 4.0/35+ACTgreat ACTs are getting denied and deferred EA/ED they start applying to more schools T30-65.
Now kids that normally would get in those schools are getting knocked down a tier and so and so on. You can’t blame the high stats kids for getting shut out of top schools and reaching down. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. |
Didn’t they do a “pre-read” for him/her?!?!! They usually do that first before kid commits. |
This is insane. He got accepted to 7 schools by November? So why keep applying to more and more schools? It's a waste of everyone's time and your money. Did he not like any of the 1st SEVEN schools he got into? You're part of what is causing the bloodbath. Your kids can only go to one school, folks...so they only need to get into ONE school. They need to focus, pick matches and safeties well, and really like those safeties. Aim for 5-10 schools that you genuinely like. This panic of applying to 15+ schools is a big part of what is making it so hard now to get into schools that a kid could have easily gotten into a few years ago. Don't keep feeding the admissions madness. |
It’s all these idiots telling everyone to apply to Pitt and such just to have an admit even when no way in hell would their kid go to Pitt. My kid did not blast a bunch of safeties he never had any intention of going to. He would rather do a gap year. |
Maybe it wasn’t a true “coach support”. Just- put my name down kind of thing. Coaches are also fickle. In my kid’s sport they are still recruiting Seniors and have dropped a few kids they were previously courting for something they like better. I’d never count on it unless I had it in writing. |
+1. What a waste of time and money. You're creating a "bloodbath" narrative and frenzy that doesn't match your DC's results. |
Because he applied to a mix of safeties, targets, and reaches. And because HE CAN! It’s his time and our money, so why are you so bothered? Simply answering a question asked isn’t creating a frenzy. Sorry that this has caused you to meltdown maybe you should not read these posts. And if you’re reading comprehension skills for good, you would have read that he feels good with his acceptances so far but he’s waiting on other results. Cry about it. |

This is a stressful time for all of us that have kids in this application cycle. Some people just handle it better than others, I guess. I’m glad your child is having good success in such a tough year.
A lot of people don’t understand there are many levels of schools, types of admissions (rolling, EA, RD etc) and that merit and other aid can play a big factor. Congratulations to your son! |
club sport (he on a national team not USA (team ranks similar to USA) he a dual citizen & we live overseas) - its an olympic sport; coaches have influence (can tag app so you know it gets read is main point + you rate high on EC) + team had multiple alum interview and write recs for him; the school just won national small school championship - logic was if you > than 50% on SAT & with 4.0 unweighted with such tag, assumed would get in (comment from coach was 'SHOCKED' comment from school counselor was 'this year EA apps & quality of applicants through the roof) prefer not to disclose the school name |
But it's not a "bloodbath" if he was accepted to 8/11 schools. So why the heck are you getting on here and typing out that crap? Frankly you sound frenzied and nuts. |

DS applied to 20+ schools. Learned from DS22 that it’s a crapshoot and lottery basically at there with so many qualified kids and yield protections. Wanted to increase options by applying to many schools.
Also $75 application fee is cheaper than spending hundreds visiting many of these schools prior to applying and then they don’t get in. We visited DCs top choices once they are admitted And would do it again this way. |
