Stylish but affordable handbag that is not "striver" or "basic"

Wolf & badger may have some good quality items in that price range.

Higher than your price point, OP, but I love Clare V bags. High quality and look stylish without any obnoxious branding. I have a black crossbody that gets heavy use and still looks perfect.

I would look at Madewell. I don't love their clothing quality, but as one PP noted, the quality of their leather is much better than the price point suggests and they have tons of sales.

https://aestherekme.com/collections/all. (I just bought the Sway and love it)

https://us.atpatelier.com/collections/us-bags

https://songmontofficial.com/collections/all-bags?page=1 (I love the Song bag)

If you don’t want to go for the striver look, avoid brand like Coach or Michael Kors.

OMG. This Staud stuff. I want all of it, and I'm not OP and just ordered a bag (with my dog on it!! https://staud.clothing/collections/custom-pet-handbags/products/custom-staud-x-c-bonz-soft-rey-bag-cream-tan).

I LOVE THAT!!! And they use a pit bull in the marketing pic <3 <3 <3

Is $600 affordable?

OP here. Definitely not. Was thinking $100-150 tops.

Ah, my people! I have a couple of bags from this place: https://inbluehandmade.com/collections

I like them!

In that price range I'd say Madewell.

You can get used Madewell bags on Poshmark and (less reliably) Thredup

I'd also look at used APC bags on ebay - they are really pretty. Some have logos but I don't think most people will really know the brand so it won't seem very strivey

Cuyana is probably another brand to look at - I don't have any of their bags but people seem to like them about the same as Madewell. And Everlane has some good unbranded ones, too.

Yes! I love that there is an adorable pittie face on there!

If I was going to get one I would customize a Massaccesi bag so get a suede lining, feet on the bottom, etc. I am not into bags as they are too heavy or too wide, in most cases. I haven't found a basic shoulder bag that is the unicorn I am looking for. Instead I have a 10 year old cheap light one that is falling apart that I still use.

Yes. Anything below $800 is "affordable".

You want 'cheap', not 'affordable'. That is not to say it can't be of good quality and decent "bang for the buck" but at that price point you are looking for what most would call 'cheap'.

Most Prada is low key. The renditions are fun.

Kate Spade, Radley London, Divina Firenze, Ralph Lauren, etc. are affordable and hold up well.

I prefer to have a collection of bags in different sizes, shapes, and colors. I find red and orange bags to be surprisingly versatile throughout the year.

This is the very definition of "basic."

Whatever. I’m Gen X and couldn’t care less what anyone thinks about my purse. I’m not interested in spending big bucks on a bag. Kate Spade bags are reasonably priced and can take a beating.

OP here. I feel the same. I just wish I could buy a coach or Kate space that didn’t say so. My last few have been from Target just so they are brand-less but they don’t hold up well. Maybe I will head to the outlet and look around.

Honestly, it's not the bag, it's the person. I have a Ralph Lauren bag that probably looks cheap, but I use it because I have very happy memories associated with that bag, and every time I use it, I feel happy. I'm betting when someone sees me with it, they aren't looking at the logo or even the bag, because what they're seeing instead is a very happy person.

Even if someone did look at your bag and logo, do you really care about the opinion of a person who would judge you based on your bag??

I live my Quince purse. A ton of pockets, good quality, and looks good for i think $60.

Sorry, OP, but you lost me with the insipid "striver" remark. Try to use real words to convey what you want
