Stylish but affordable handbag that is not "striver" or "basic"

Anonymous
Does that make sense? Definitely nothing with a "signature logo" all over it. Any ideas?

You have to be more specific than “affordable.” That’s a relative thing.

Check out Mlouye! Wonderful leather, impeccable craftsmanship, and architectural styles. Minimal or no visible branding. I have several Mlouye bags and love them.

Is $600 affordable?

What do you mean affordable? Coach has some really nice bags now that are very in style, and I consider that brand very affordable. It's probably pretty "basic" though.

I’ve had good luck with the RealReal. I’ve heard that the “real” part can be questionable with the truly designer bags, but the smaller brands aren’t the type of thing anyone would bother to fake. My last bag was Maiyet and my current is Anya Hindmarch, both soft leather and simple lines and not visibly branded. Each was under $100 during a sale. My main advice is to read the descriptions carefully and pore over a zoomed-in photo, since bag conditions can range from basically perfect to “I can’t believe they’re trying to sell that.”

Depends on your budget. Many nice bags can be picked up secondhand on The RealReal, Poshmark, etc.

I’m a bag person but recently decided I’m done wearing anything with labels or otherwise recognizable. There are some great designers who make beautiful, well made bags in your price range. Here are some of my favs:

https://aestherekme.com/collections/all. (I just bought the Sway and love it)

https://us.atpatelier.com/collections/us-bags

https://songmontofficial.com/collections/all-bags?page=1 (I love the Song bag)

https://staud.clothing/collections/bags-accessories

If you don’t want to go for the striver look, avoid brand like Coach or Michael Kors.

I prefer a solid bag that will last for a few years (at least). Outlets have good options, frequent sales, and good prices.

Kate Spade, Radley London, Divina Firenze, Ralph Lauren, etc. are affordable and hold up well.

I prefer to have a collection of bags in different sizes, shapes, and colors. I find red and orange bags to be surprisingly versatile throughout the year.

OMG. This Staud stuff. I want all of it, and I'm not OP and just ordered a bag (with my dog on it!! https://staud.clothing/collections/custom-pet-handbags/products/custom-staud-x-c-bonz-soft-rey-bag-cream-tan).

This is the very definition of "basic."

Portland Leather, Able, GiGi NewYork all offer leather bags at affordable price points. As other have mentioned, Coach has some great options right now.

Sezane has some nice, stylish bags in the 300-500 ranged I think the quality is pretty good. Similar quality to Madewell (which actually has good quality for the price point) but a little more interest and style, and less recognizably a Madewell bag.
