Williams ED Bloodbath?

Nobody unhooked should be applying ED to Williams.

Of course, nobody unhooked should be applying to SCEA schools at this point either. And yet…

Oh yeah, no one should be applying ED to Williams when the acceptance rate is 27% and 943 applicants. Instead you should wait until RD when the acceptance rate is 9.8% and there are 10,315 applicants. Makes perfect sense.

Exactly. There is actual violence in the world. I would edit your title. Rich, well connected people not getting into their perfect small LAC is NOT on the same level.

Holy Tone Deafness.

Can folks share their stats? I expect to see a lot of strong students in the rejected / deferred column.

The stats really don't matter. Assume they are over 1500 SAT and over 3.7 UW GPA. Assume also a lot of good EC ans leadership.

Because that is what ALL of the qualified candidates have. And there are hundreds of thousands of them vying for the same 20,000 spots in these "prestigious" schools.

This is what is confusing to me. These schools only accept 1300 or so kids total at 8% acceptance rate. If you know 10 kids applying, chances are they will NOT be accepted.

Also, the students are self-selecting, as the same types of kids would be applying - so similar stats, background, etc (meaning a lot of rural kids in Texas are not )

They can only accept a set number of kids... So admission probably seems random and is pretty much a toss-up. (but if it makes us feel better, we can blame it on diversity and URM or first gen being "let" in )

You know they will!

Yes they will! Like clockwork.

Subtract out the athletes and other priority applicants and then redo the math.

They had a crazy increase in early decision applications.

Read that it was a 4% ED admit rate, lower than past years.

it's not 4% ED admit rate, it's 4% of all applicants will enroll at Williams ultimately.

Somebody needs a math lesson. But the above post explains why students (and their parents) keep making the same mistakes

I agree. The title is incredibly inappropriate.

Chill, people.

👏

Naw. The title is way over the top dramatic.

It would be better for schools to publish their actual ED percentage admittance taking out athletic commits and Questbridge, as well as athletes to give the real number of spots up for grabs but that would discourage people from applying at all-they need those people without a snowball’s chance in hell to give them those sub-10% numbers to make parents swoon and be green with envy!

Exactly. People read the rejection letter too quickly, saw 4% and freaked out. The 4% referred to the ~575 spots they have for the class of 2028, for which they will accept many more because of yield. What’s funny is that Williams is projecting FEWER applications than last year (14,000 vs. more than 15,000); if this projection bears out, the overall acceptance rate is likely to be the same as last year (9%), if not a tiny bit higher.

I've been casually reading college posts on parent boards (first UrbanBaby and now DCUM) for over 10 years and literally every single year people get worked up about the "bloodbath" when kids they think are owed a spot don't get one. The entitlement and tone deafness is....appalling. But it absolutely nothing new.

The only ones getting into Williams from our private (or any NESCAC) are recruited athletes. Facts.

Thank you. People really need some perspective.

People also need to chill out-the OP was clearly using hyperbole in her title for clickbait. Everyone in the DMV is so holier than thou it makes me want to barf.

Except acceptance rates have declined dramatically year over year for much of that time.
