Clean sweatshirt every day?

Clean hoodie daily. Lots of outdoor play at recess and sometimes bits of lunch end up on clothes

It depends on the kid and what they are doing. I have teens and they don’t have body odor, so hoodies are washed when they get soiled or once a week, whichever happens first. We all lack the body odor gene in my family.

Oh, I am SO envious. We are a super smelly family. All of us, sadly.

I have to wash both kids hoodies daily. They just throw them in the wash. Definitely a hassle in the winter since they take up more space in the washer. Doesn't matter if they wear a shirt underneath or not.

I have asked her to try to wear twice before doing so but that rarely happens. Left to his own devices, DS (13) will wear it for a week but I try to grab it after 2-3 days and throw it in the wash.

Similar ages kids and genders, and exact same here

Same. My daughter won’t wear it twice. She will have it on for two hours and say it needs to be washed before wearing again. My son will wear it continuously until I put it in the laundry. He has plenty of hoodies but doesn’t seem to notice the smell and grabs the same one off the floor until it disappears.

DS wears a shirt under the hoodie. Left to him, he would wear the same one all week. I smell/change it every 2-3 days depending on if it smells or is dirty

+1 for an 11 year old girl

It's possible for little kids to get away with wearing the same hoodie for a few days in a row. However, the 'classroom funk' becomes a thing in many 3rd grade classrooms. The 'funk' is known by every 4th and 5th grade teacher, 100%.

Girls seem more prone to wearing new ones each day. I've had some boys in my class who wore the same hoodies daily for weeks.

Most days my child uses them more like a jacket and takes them off at school. We wash every couple of wears.

Those hoodies are worn most of the day and although you do not see visible dirt, they sneeze in their sleeves, other kids nasty hands or booger fingers touch their hoodie, the hoodies get thrown on the floor when taken off and stepped on by others. It goes beyond “smelling.” That is like saying, my breath does not stink so I can pass on brushing my teeth.

No, it’s not like that. A kid’s arms aren’t going to rot off their body if they don’t wear a fresh hoodie every day.

I clean it every time, but if it looks fine and passes the sniff test I wouldn't think it's a big deal to get one more wear out of it.

I have bought kids enough clothing to change daily from top to bottom for a week except the outer jacket. I only do laundry once a week.

That’s cute that you think that, but you all probably smell and just don’t realize it because you’re used to it. You might want to consider doing laundry a little more frequently just to be on the safe side.

My 7 year old is pretty messy so a clean one daily. The sleeves alone are pretty gross after a day in school.

But also: whatever. If other kids rewear clothes, I don’t care.

We make them wear new ones every day. I’m a bit neurotic (eg I also wash towels and pajamas after every use) with laundry.

It’s a scientific finding that has been studied thoroughly. People without the abcc11 gene do not produce body odor. And if you visit Korea, you will notice that there is almost no deodorant for sale. Many Koreans have never heard of it. It always puzzles expats and they are commonly advised to bring their own supply. Only .006% of Koreans have a copy of the gene, and far far fewer have two copies.

“If the ABCC11 gene is non-functional, sweat molecules are unable to cross the membrane barrier to reach the armpit. This starves bacteria on the other side of the skin surface, as they are unable to access or metabolize the organic compounds in the sweat. As a result, odorant substances are not produced.”

Same, esp bc he has favorites he likes to keep wearing. Kid is in K and I've never noticed an odor. But gets a messy or crusty sleeves etc within 2-3 days.
