If your DC only wears a hoodie to school and keeps it on most of the day, does he wear a clean one everyday or the same hoodie? The hoodies can get smelly in just one day.. |
Clean one every day. Its functioning as a shirt that need daily changing, not a coat or a jacket |
If there is a shirt underneath, we clean every 2-3 days unless visibly soiled. Kid is eight - answer might change as he ages.
There are better ways to use the earth’s dwindling resources. |
Thats what I thought but I noticed some kids wear the same hoodie every day. |
It still can be smelly even if not visibly soiled. |
Never is, though. What is your young kid doing that gets a second layer smelly in six hours at school in winter?! |
My kid will wear the same hoodie for a week and then we wash on the weekend.
But agree with PP(s) that age of the kid matters. Mine is just-turned 7 and no signs of puberty at all. We know that we will need to start increasing hygiene habits over the next few years. Right now we are trying to push the shift to showers instead of baths, and ensure they happen daily. DC really fights bathing so it's been an uphill battle, but I want to do it now when we aren't also dealing with puberty hormones and before any issues emerge around smelling bad. I feel awful for kids who hit puberty and you can tell still have the hygiene skills/habits of a kindergartener. I think it can impact them socially and can also impact self-esteem -- it's really good for kids to learn the psychological benefits of good hygiene. They are real! |
Both my kids wear hoodies every day with shirts underneath. DD (11) throws it in the laundry pretty much every day. I have asked her to try to wear twice before doing so but that rarely happens. Left to his own devices, DS (13) will wear it for a week but I try to grab it after 2-3 days and throw it in the wash. |
If a tshirt underneath, I wash every 2-3 wears or whenever it looks dirty. My kids take them off by midday usually, and shove in backpack (we live in a warmer climate). Usually they look soiled before there is any odor at that age. At least with my kids. |
If it's getting smelly, definitely get a new one. I'm guessing your kid probably has some puberty hormones going and that makes a huge difference. My kids' hoodies (which are worn over shirts) pretty much never smell even after several days of wearing them. We wash once a week or when visibly dirty, whichever comes first. |
Running around in recess, playing outside can make it smelly. Kid is 9, no sign of puberty. |
It smells like school. I make them wear a new one every day. |
We wear clean clothes when we go out to school during the week but on the weekend or long holidays my kids are unwashed ragamuffins |
Similar ages kids and genders, and exact same here |
Anything that is smelly needs to be washed without question. |
