Is No Social Media a Red Flag?

This significantly healthier. He is doing more productive things than spending hours on line.

No. Not a red flag at all.

The only red flag would be if you eventually found one he hadn't told you about (I feel like that is a regular thing on shows like Catfish and Love Con, lol).

Hopefully, he’s not using a fake name!

Same. Single here and don't even give out my real name.

LinkedIn is the only one I might wonder about, but even then, it's NBD. It would be relief to meet someone *not* on FB, IG, etc.

He’s married.

I know someone who doesn't have any social media profiles because of his work. He also monitors when his name gets searched.

Suuuuure he does.

Have you asked him? He may not be using his real name.
If he tells you he’s not on social media, but then you see the apps on his phone, there’s your red flag

My 22yo son is graduating this spring from undergrad and just got LinkedIn this past summer. We “forced” him because to put the url on his resume. Otherwise he prob wouldn’t have it.
He has a Instagram account with I think 2000 followers but he has never posted and it’s not his “name”. No Facebook or X for him either. Our other kid is the opposite though and is on social media like it’s a job.

My 45yo brother just lost his $$$$ job of 15 years and never had or considered creating a LinkedIn until now… and we had to talk him into it.

So no… not necessarily a red flag if employed urban professionals don’t have LI. it was initially considered just for networking and getting a job but I’ve been on it for 10 years and it’s becoming more like FB and the other social media with people post memes, stories and first day of school pictures.

+1

No LinkedIn is shady if he’s in a professional field.

No, most adults do NOT have/maintain a LinkedIn account. And it’s ridiculous to assume that they do (or should).

Most people in DCUM land and the people we associate with in person do, so the standards of those in the bubble is actually relevant here.

And come to think of it, I am from a very rural town in the west where most people barely graduated from high school and everybody I know from home who has a white collar job has linkedin.

LOL. In DC you are absolutely SURROUNDED with professionals who do not use LinkedIn. Use your brain.

Neither DH nor I use social media. I work in tech. It's very common in my world to be off social media and low-screens in general.

I have no social media, and if you Google me there is absolutely nothing. I just checked.

I don’t know how to quantify surrounded but well over fifty percent of the professionals I know in DC have LinkedIn accounts so my statement stands. I have three neighbors who do not and two are about to retire. Are you in the state department? Over 55?

I have no social media but I do have a lot of web presence. I would dig into this a bit.
