Evan for a girl

How about Eva in honor of your maiden name instead? Maybe I’m biased bc I have someone in my life who has caused me a lot of pain and his name is Evan. But I do not like the name Evan at all, for a boy or girl.

Also, while I agree that most don’t care (and shouldn’t care) about gendered names these days, assuming your child identifies as female, she will be constantly having people assume she’s a boy or refer to her w male pronouns if they haven’t met in person yet and that can be annoying to go through life always correcting people about your name/gender/sex.

Go for it. Celebrities like Ryan Reynolds named his daughter James or Ashton Kutcher's daughter Wyatt, you can do the same.

But that's clearly an Irish name for a girl.

The name Eaven is a girl's name meaning "beautiful sheen". Anglicized form of the Irish name Aoibheann, which is also in use in Ireland itself.

Evan is awkward and male

Evan is a really difficult name for a girl. Useable as a middle name, but she’ll probably hate it.

Yes, but those kids are very likely to have beauty privilege, based on being born to extremely attractive people. Seriously. Let’s pretend Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was named Evan at birth. Nobody would blink an eye. It doesn’t make the name good. It’s just that she’s so extremely symmetrical that people will ignore almost anything else.

OP, unless you’re a former runway model, I wouldn’t advise it.

Agree

I like it as a nickname for Evangeline or paired with a feminine middle name. It's in the same vein as Ryan for a girl and I know a few of those.

I have a teen DD with a unisex name that skews male. What you are saying never happens and is the stuff of 70s and 80s sitcom plots.
Evan being a softer sounding boys name would also not be hassled in that way too.

Same! Especially since it's a family name. OP, I think you should go for it!

They have celebrity privilege and born with enough money to live their whole life privilege.

Did you day "Evan Wood pulls it off"? No, no one has ever said that.

"Evan Rachel Wood pulls it off."

Her name is effectively "Evan Rachel"

Fair point

I like it! You can always do Evie as a nickname. But I think it's pretty and sounds gender neutral.

Evan Ryan, President Biden's cabinet secretary, is a very accomplished example of a female Evan. She would be an amazing role model for your daughter.

I would name her Evangelina but call her Evan.
