We were listening to "A Boy Named Sue" on our drive home from Thanksgiving and it made me think about this. It's hard to imagine a kids being beat up for having the name usually associated with the other gender any more. Times have changed. IMO kids these days care so much less about gendered names or gendered anything really it wouldn't be an issue at all for your daughter or her peers. It's just the moms/family/teachers/etc. who are going to balk.

Her peers won’t bat an eye if you decide to name her Evan. Generation Y and Z parents generally won’t give a shit. It’s Generation X and mainly Boomers that will clutch their pearls. It won’t be a problem as the latter group continues to die off.

This is not new. See Evan Rachel Wood. In terms of characters Sarah Chalke played a doctor on Scrubs named Elliot (another awful name for boys and girls).

You think Gen X cares? We do not.

DP - nor do we clutch pearls.

I think its a good choice because of the family connection. It wouldn't be my first choice otherwise but I like it well enough and know others who have named their girls family names like this.

Any name other than Joline is fine. just heard Dolly Parton sing Joline and now I cannot stand to hear that word.

I would use it as a middle name, but not a first name for a girl. You are inviting problems for your child, in that they will have to correct people their entire life, not to mention convince people that no, they didn't fill the form out incorrectly and yes they are female

I hate it for a girl. It's a boy's name.

I love the family connection! Is there a chance you have a boy in the future?

For the latter I think that just worked so well bc Sarah Chalke is adorable (esp in that role) and could have pulled off any name.

Ha! We did IVF. Believe it or not, all 8 of our embryos were girls! Chances of conceiving naturally are slim to none.

No. Just no!

I think it’s a sweet middle name, but not as a first name. It’s a male name, there are so many wonderful female names to choose.

If you love it, no one will blink, but you asked opinions.

Love it, especially with the family connection.

I enjoy a good pearl clutching here and there but I approve of Evan for a girl.

Agree, and if she loves Evan she can choose to go by her middle name.
