DD and DS both went to beach week. If your kids are irresponsible idiots, maybe don't let them go. Each kid had to do a long meeting with parent about check in/check out, liability for damages, drunk driving, marijuana legality, safety, etc.

I refused to allow DCs to go to NC beaches - too far away if there was an accident or injury.

Frankly, I viewed beach week as dress rehearsal for college, both on and off campus living. Learning not to be one of the drunk idiots is a life skill.

Agreed - I swear these are all things we did as kids and now parents just want to helicopter everything. I don't know about you but my kids are much more tame than I was and frankly these are milestones they need to experience.

Agree. My daughter is going. They will have an older sibling chaperone (mid 20’s) and there will be parent meetings beforehand to discuss rules. I trust my daughter and so far she has made very safe and reasonable decisions when out and/or drinking (that I know of. But she tends to tell us EVERYTHING - that’s just her personality). So I’m good with it.

The parent of the sibling chaperone rented the house. She’s actually thinking of going too and working remotely.

My oldest is a sophomore and when it has come up in conversation about older kids the idea of a parent going and essentially taking care of them for the week sounds quite memorable if you ask me. Makes me think of the beginning of the pandemic and that viral mom that was hosting all the kids back from school/work and was making them little appetizer trays throughout the day. If you can afford the week off work or even working remotely it would be a nice time.

OMG No! No appetizer trays! If a parent goes to beach week, you are not there to "take care" of them. Let them learn to grocery shop and split bills. Let them have breakfast at the diner and dinner at the crab shack. They need to be on their own, doing things with friends. Parents should only be there for medical or legal
emergencies.

WTF? Are you going to send them to college with an appetizer tray?

Is this beach week for students (BCC and other HS)?

You do know that Beach Week is not officially organized and coordinated, right?

Last week. This week. Next week. The week after. Any week can be "Beach Week" with teens running amok.

Not for Blair. Had a graduation to attend today. From tomorrow yes, beach week and adulting.

I went and had a great time at beach week after I graduated but none of us even thought to ask our parents to book. We found a place that rented to 21 year olds and found a 21 year old friend. Other people asked older cousins/friends/siblings or used fake ids or opted to go camping where age restrictions are more commonly 18 or whatever. It wasn't our parents thing to manage.

Most seniors aren't minors.

18 year olds aren't minors. Most seniors are over 18 by June of their last year.

Don't be obtuse. The drinking age is 21.

My daughter is there now and besides a quick check in text when she arrived, the week is hers! I loved beach week after graduating high school myself, and hope she will make just as many great memories!
