You do know actual running shoes are the same price if not more? Some people are willing to pay this for shoes. It’s really not that much.

On clouds are HORRIBLE for really running

They are airport dad shoes

Hoka is good but they’ve actually fallen behind compared to 5-10 years ago

OP’s kid should watch “Beleive in the Run” - a running YouTube Channel from Baltimore - the co owner is a woman named Meghan and she’s great.

Right now imo the best running shoe rotation is from adidas

Adios Pro 3 for long distance, takumi sen 9 for short speed work, and Boston 12 for daily training/recovery

1000% this. On clouds are AWFUL to run on even though they are advertised as a running shoe. I don’t even really like walking in mine.

They have absolutely no support.
They’re fine for weightlifting but if your kid is a runner they need actual running shoes.

Which ones specifically do you have? I've tried several and I much prefer them to other shoes. I doubt you've tried them all. I just went back to them after dismal performing Hokas (too much arch support, felt uncomfortable) and Brooks (wore out too quickly). Everyone's feet are different.

I didn’t buy them for running but they’re not really good for anything. I have no desire to try any more. I can find a much better shoe.

I have more actual running shoes that I need. I’m an ASICS girl and have been for decades. Gel Kayano

Those aren't the running shoes, those are basic walking shoes.

A good On running shoe would be Cloudmonster, Cloudsurfer, Cloudflyer, Cloudflow etc. But go to a running shoe store and have her try different ones on and see what she likes. But you never know until you put a few miles on them how good they really are.

On has at least 15 different styles! They make some for tennis, running, walking, cross, training, etc.

OP- I would bet that most kids have done the research. You could look on your own, or just probably go with ine of the brands most kids have, but definitely get fitted at a running store.

Haha! The "research" most kids have done is to look around and see what the cool kids are wearing, then buy those.

My teen and her friends were the Hoka Gaviotas. They aren't runners, though, so I can't speak to their performance for that specific activity. I see Gaviotas a lot.

Asics are coming back as far as 'trendiness' and actually make good running shoes. My sister (marathoner, NYC fashion girlie) is currently running in Asics.

I agree. My kid ended up with On Cloud after trying on at least 10 brands. She didn't care which shoe her friends were wearing.

I can ask her but I would like to try to surprise her with a holiday gift that she isn't expecting. TIA.

What distance? It could be Mizuno or Asics. I can't see sprinters or hurdlers wearing on cloud or hokas

That's Hoka's stability shoe. I guess there is a certain irony in teens wearing them

Agree with everyone else. Get her fitted at a REAL running store for the shoes she'll wear to practice, and spikes if her coach wants her to have them.

The "trendy" ones are almost definitely On Clouds or Hokas. If they don't work great for her foot for running, you could always get her a pair to wear to school.

I've run in Mizuno, On Cloud and Hokas. I've also walked my dogs in them, shopped, traveled. Bottom line is there is no brand that works for everyone, nor within the brand is there a style that works for everyone. You really need to be fitted at a running store, like Pacers or Comfort One. Based on the treadmill test they do, they can make recommendations. Everyone's feet are different. My daughter has multiple pairs of Hokas (she's a college student) and loves all of them. She didn't like the On Clouds. I can wear both. My internist hated Hokas and only wears On Clouds. So, to each his own.

They are probably wearing them because they look like ugly orthopedic shoes and teens are weird these days.

I must have tried every running shoe and always end up going back to ASICS gel.

Are you me? I also only run in gel kayano otherwise…various disasters and injuries ensue. I bought a pair of On’s to be my casual mom shoe. I love that they’re slip on and light and more supportive than my other casual sneakers …for those 6-8 hour mom-ing days
