WWYD - Thanksgiving + Germs

Unfortunately they’re recently getting over Covid (today is day 10) 3/6 people in the household currently have fevers ranging from 99.2-100.?? 2 of the adults regularly lie about basic stuff so they could have fevers and be lying (1 is the person at 100.?? who is now saying she runs warm which I’ve never heard in the 8 years knowing her, usually that she’s freezing)

What would you do?

For what it’s worth in my family we all have 3 of 4 Covid shots and all but one of us had Covid in September (thanks Kindergartner).

I wouldn't go.

They have fevers, I would stay away whether it were COVID, flu or strep.

+1

I would cancel.

+2. I treat covid like any other virus now, so my answer has nothing to do with it being covid. But three people in one house with fevers? I feel like it's near certain your family will get sick. No thanks.

Ha ha. Aren't you funny. My healthy early 20 something year old kid has long covid and it has been devastating.

I’ve never heard of asymptomatic people getting tested for strep.

With direct exposure yes. It is possible to be carrier without symptoms.

We tested two asymptomatic siblings when one came down with strep, since it was going around town so rapidly. One of the siblings did turn out to be positive.

Was that 20 year old vaccinated? Because now so many of us are not only vaccinated, but has also had Covid. It’s not the same situation as early in the pandemic.

No chance I’d go.

Anonymous wrote:Good for you for cancelling. They might have Covid and something else viral...(like last year at Thanksgiving, we all had flu A...we know because kid was so sick, we went to the ER)..

I would have canceled not for fear of Covid, if they truly were all past ten days - but because those (granted, not technical) fevers could have indicated exposure to something else. You can catch other viruses while recovering.

Pp and the three of us did end up going to urgent care and getting tested, thankfully all negative but they did say it was totally possible. Asymptomatic cases tend to be less contagious.

Hi OP,

Just a reminder: the correct term is not “thanksgiving,” it is National Day of Mourning.

Where? I'd love to know the place.

Our pediatrician won't test asymptomatic siblings so we either have to have the siblings lie or go to the pediatrician again for each siblings. Might as well pay rent for a room there.

That seems unusual to me- our pediatrician and an urgent care place we went to have both been happy to test our other kids.

We have a concierge pediatrician who tested. The point is that yes, you can have asymptomatic carriers of strep. How contagious they are is another story, but FWIW the doctor prescribed antibiotics for our child who had no strep symptoms but was positive.
