The upside is he can seize this opportunity to fully participate in the economy.

Some other speaker lady said something like the entire city council deserved to be spanked and punished. Not sure why that isn't getting as much press.

FWIW I have worked with ARHA for decades and the demographics of who is in section 8 in Alexandria is quite diverse, it is not overwhelmingly AA.

LOL no, just no.

LOL no to what part?

It sounds like the concern on this forum is that he was being racist toward white people? But I read his comments as being racist toward Black people. The comments were soooooo patronizing. And the language about not grabbing into the opportunity to full participate in the economy? That shows a lot of ignorance.

Something like 30 calls for gunshots in the last 18 months. That is who he is talking about and everyone in this city knows this. Had he said "deserving whites" we wouldn't even be talking.

Who are you to decide who is worthy?

A taxpayer perhaps?

Many disabled veterans don’t pay taxes. They aren’t worthy?

Many chronically ill and disabled people don’t pay taxes? That makes them unworthy?

This country really is just about money.

Of course it was racist against black people. The responses on this thread suggesting otherwise are either trolls or idiots.

His plea that the housing go to black was rascist against black people how? It benefitted them.

Racial discrimination is very sensitive under law, and twice as sensitive in real estate law.

Real estate professionals need to tread carefully.

Anyone with half a brain can see what’s wrong with the statement.

Virginia is a right to work state with at-will employment. They can fire him for picking his nose if they want to.

I wouldn’t want to be associated with someone who spoke in that manner, either. And I find it odd and trollish that you are defending it.

What do unions have to do with this situation?

He shouldn't have made it about race and they shouldn't have fired him. Needy people come in many colors.

DCUM progressives have a difficult time comprehending the US constitution. The man's statements were excluding everyone but poor black people from affordable housing and, given progressive messaging these days, can be interpreted to mean excluding only white people (who are always rich and privileged). Alexandria City recently passed a law to give benefits to everyone but non-hispanic white people so there is now a pattern and practice.

+100 it's so blatant and out in the open like when they City's health department got the covid vaccine and they only gave it to POC first. I literally have the flyer saved on my computer because it was so unbelievable and an out in the open FU to anyone else. Insane that this is acceptable to people here and they keeping voting for these psychos.

I think low income housing should be based on need rather than race and let the market figure out who wants to be there.

What about deserving white people?

There has to be significant incentive for investors to buy and hold these kind of assets and it shouldn't be favored for a race.
