Would you travel to northern Israel in Spring 2024? March-June timeframe. Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Masada/Dead Sea, maybe Petra.

I opened it to respond because I've lived there and spent a lot of time there for work. I'm not jewish though, so I won't give you any advice.

“…and people who are familiar with and support Israel generally.”
You didn’t even bother to read the whole post. NP.

OP, I would not make non-refundable plans to go in the spring.

The post is off-putting. You don't need to be a supporter of Israeli politics or Jewish to answer a travel question.

Also, only an idiot would even ask this question. You can't even fly there on most airlines currently. What does the OP think is going to change in a few months?

I know people who have been going there regularly since Oct. 7 to visit and others who are planning to go in December (entirely separate from the flights that were bringing reservists back). El Al has flights, even if other carriers don't, so it's entirely possible to get there. Separate question from whether it's a good idea, but the flight logistics aren't as bad as you're suggesting.

People unfamiliar with Israel o not understand that border towns are not the whole country or its heart.

How about Jews unfamiliar and unsupportive of Israel?

Why would OP want their travel opinions? Stop making this about you and your concerns.

What does being in SE Israel have to do with anything? That is not near Gaza. It’s very common to combine an Israeli trip with Petra.

Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Dead Sea and Petra are far from the conflict now but it’s still too soon to know for spring. I would only book if everything is fully refundable.

Thanks.

I’d wait.

My relatives in Tel Aviv are still going to their bomb shelters frequently.

I was going to say maybe - we lived there for a couple of years and lived through Protective Edge. But then I saw someone mention the air raid sirens/bomb shelter. This was nerve-wracking for us but we were prepared for it. And I was only caught outside while driving once. When you are out in the open and no shelter is available and a siren goes off you are supposed to lie flat on the ground on your stomach with your hands over your head. Otherwise you get in a shelter within 3 minutes and often less depending on how close you are to Gaza (or Lebanon). I wouldn't risk that on vacation.

We canceled 2024 already.

I’d be worried about kidnappings more than rockets, but it depends on how you plan your logistics. With some security with you, I think it would be ok (and less crowded, sadly). But then my line of work includes fragile states so my calculations are maybe a bit different.

+1
You don’t need to be Jewish or a supporter of Israeli politics to hope for peace.

-a Jewish person who is highly critical of Israeli politics

The OP didn’t say Israeli politics, just Israel generally and I assume they put it that way so this would stick to being travel related instead of devolving into a discussion about the conflict. I would not go now unless I had to visit an elderly relative or something like that, not for touring and I sadly don’t know when it will be safe. I wonder if I’ll ever go again - in the past I always felt like there was a buildup to things getting bad so you could cancel if necessary. This surprise attack really changed my calculus.
