Alternatives to Charlotte

If you love Charlotte you should use it. My kids kindergarten class has two Elizas and two Cecilias but no Charlotte's. You can't control everything.

We were thinking of naming our dd after a family member but the name was in the top 3 so we quickly vetoed it. Ultimately, we found a name we loved that wasn’t on any lists. Yay! Turns out that while the name remains globally unique, there are many many other little girls with her name in our neighborhood. There are 2 in her class. There are zero girls with the top 3 name. We still love her name and don’t regret using it, but you can turn yourself into knots trying to crack the naming code.

Charlotte is a lovely name. If you love it, use it.

Your taste is lovely! I really love Camille, Cecilia, Eliza, although Eliza is a little trendy. Charlotte is fine. Other that that, Victoria, Audrey, Natalie???

I always wanted to name my daughter Charlotte (Charlotte Johanssen was my favorite character in the Baby-Sitters Club books) but couldn't pull the trigger as it was too popular for me.
Ended up with a Camille and considered Caroline, Vivian/Vivienne, Margaret, Katherine, Audrey, Brigette, Natalie, Elise, and Zoe.

We live in a neighborhood where I think people are fearful of name that are "too popular" and as a result, you could safely name your kid Olivia and she'd be the only one in her grade, but if you go with Josephine, Beatrice, Lydia, Theodora, or Leonora, you are likely to run into others on the playground because I know 2-3 kids with each of those much-less-popular names.

+1 I agree with this, particularly since Cecelia, Eliza, and Camille are not particularly unpopular (and Seraphine is mildly ludicrous). Charlotte is nice, you like it, and you aren't going to avoid the "two in the gymnastics class" conundrum with the other names you like, so pick the one you like the most.

I agree with this. My kids were born in the height of the Charlotte craze and they have never had a Charlotte in any of their classes.
